New player needs help going about creating a character

Post by Chef » Thu Jun 03, 2004 3:15 am

Well i am new to this world, and i must say to who ever did this i am very impressed. Anywho, i am thinking about making a pirate but i dont know how to go about that on this server. I read the rules and guide PDF file, but im still a bit confused. Do i have to pick my god based on my alignment ? And is there anything, such as race and skills and any other things that i need to take into concideration? This world is just to overwhelming at the moment...im sure i'll get it soon enough tho. Thanks

Welcome to Avlis :)

No you don't need to pick a god. And some if not most gods have fairly wide allowances for the alignment of their followers. Andagar for example who is LE, will accept any non-chaotic follower. The god your PC follows, if any, should be based more upon the domain and portifolio of the god then alignment.

Which is different then what is allowed for their clerics.

As for making a pirate. That would be a little bit tricky, due simply to the limitations of NWN. There aren't a lot of boats and you can't really sail, so the normal stuff a pirate would do, just can't be done here.

No boarding ships and pilliaging them.

However that doesn't mean you couldn't RP someone who was part of a pirate crew who is without a ship or on leave or something.

There's a group of PC's on Avlis who have gone with a sorta land based pirate theam. If you play in Mikona there's a chance you could run into them.

I guess it depends on what you have in mind.

If you want to discuss what type of character you want to make, feel free to PM me for background info or advice that you don't nesicarally want posted in public.

Know what we need more? Tree-loving, people-hating, lightning-throwing druids of Verossa. Yessirree. That's what we need more *hint hint to new people*

Welcome to Avlis!!!

I always thought a pirate would be cool. One of my friends briefly played a halfling pirate and had me rolling on the floor in tears.

There is a god already that would probably be perfect for you: Ingoren. He (or she) is the god of sailors and the ocean.

As long as you spend a lot of time in the warf districts I think the concept would rock.

ARR! There are land pirates for sure! They're called "bandits".

Get access to the evil boards.

IG look for Sham, vence, tiras, or amber.

That is my opinion, not nessasarily anyone else's opinon, might just be, but that would be a coincodence, and damnit, sometimes the crap I write is not even my opinion either.

Well. this pirate will not be an evil character, though his alignment will be Neutral Evil, he will be more on the greedy/play people for their money. But yes, he will be laugh out loud funny, with a catch phrase and all. I hope i can meet up with these bandits, sounds good. Or even a rouges guild. He will spend time by the sea, but every pirate has to make money some how, and if that means he needs to go inland, so be it.

YAR!!

I already have two alts who are pirates. Gasherman (CE) and Aleksandr (CG).

As for ninjas, that would actually be even harder. There is a continent called Khanjar Kuro with samurai and other eastern cultures but Orl has basically put a block on anyone coming from there. Do a search on Khanjar Kuro and put my name in the author box to find a thread on it.
