IGN NWN Vault gone for good?

Yet another casualty in our favorite game, but the Neverwinter Nights Vault pages at IGN http://nwvault.ign.com/ has been taken down. It currently redirects to the Neverwinter wiki (not even the same game(s)...), so bleh.

Luckily people had time to plan for it, and you can find ~most~ of it backed up here: http://neverwintervault.org/

*edits* Some people are speculating that is is simply another web attack causing redirects, and in that case, great. It has been happening quite a bit lately though, so at least you have another link when it happens.

Good to know, but good to have a backup if it happens again. The old Bioware forums going poof was a big (and unplanned) loss, and even the backups are very incomplete (omnibus is a great tool for example, but doesn't have a lot).

The Old (IGN) Vault: The old NWN Vault (nwvault.ign.com) has been offline for a couple of months now as IGN was working on switching to a wiki format or something. They ended up disabling the entire NWN Vault site…initially just the pages (which could be worked around via a hosts file DNS modification by visitors), then the file system itself stopped working.

The New (Community) Vault: The new Neverwinter Vault (neverwintervault.org) has been online for quite some time, but since the old one went down multiple community members have been mass-migrating old content to the new Vault. Rolo Kipp lent an external hard drive with all of the data (as of July 2013) to The Amethyst Dragon, which was then uploaded to a read-only FTP server. Community members are encouraged to pull the data from that drive in order to get older content available again.

The NWN Community Site: The Amethyst Dragon is in the process of updating links on the community site (www.neverwinternights.info) to account for the loss of the old Vault. As more and more content is migrated to the new Vault, all “broken” links (marked with handy red Xs) will get updated. Luckily all such links to the older BioWare Social Network forum are automatically being redirected to the newer BioWare Forum copies of those threads.

Basically the http://www.neverwinternights.info/ site is being used as something of a front end, to organize the more important content from http://neverwintervault.org/, if that helps make sense of it.

An example is how our wiki needed files page now points to the collection of 1.69 critical rebuilds for different languages and OS's on the new vault page (as the alternate location), rather than directly to them, to save new players from getting even more confused with the stuff there that they don't need. The main link to the dead vault can probably be removed now, if that last quote is any indication.

*edits* If you haven't tried the new Bioware Forum for NWN, it is worth a look. It has all the old Social stuff and even some from the original forum (not much).
