Neverwinter Nights
Do you think our playerbase is big enough to bug Atari into releasing digital copies of NWN? It's really a pain in the ass to buy copies of the game. Like it was said somewhere, Amazon.com is a pretty good bet... still, it's limited and the difficulty of it is not helping us bring in new players.

Just be happy they still keep the website stuff up.
It's an old game and they've done a lot more for the community than just about any game I know of (besides maybe StarCraft and Warcraft 3 editing tools and such but I still think NWN is above and beyond that).

Re: Neverwinter Nights
Well, I think our community is too small. But if there are enough people who'd want to try nwn (again) and would like to buy it in a digital form, atari might be persuaded to sell it through goodoldgames or the steam network. There have been several companies that re-released old games like that.

Yeah, that's more along the lines of what I was thinking Girly.

Re: Neverwinter Nights
The only reason NWN got as much support for persistent worlds as it did was because a few folks who worked there were also interested. The bottom line is always $, and we are small change in the big picture when it comes to game sales. The community being able to modify the game in so many ways is why we have people still playing, from nwnx up.
All just my opinion of course.

Re: Neverwinter Nights
You've got two things working against you. Hasbro wants to stamp out any D&D that is not 4.0 -- and to that I sayDarkfire wrote:Do you think our playerbase is big enough to bug Atari into releasing digital copies of NWN? I know D&D is Hasbro, but NwN1 was distributed by Atari. Or is that Hasbro property too?

Is the Ultimate Dungeons and Dragons pack still in sale? Pek bought me one for a christmas some years ago, has all the Bioware/Atari D&D games and expansions.
A lot of fun games there, even though I've only used the NWN CDs.. :s

Re: Neverwinter Nights
Not sure if you could get them to issue downloadable games, but it couldn't hurt sending them a mail asking to buy CD keys. I think Bizzard did that with StarCraft I back in the day.Darkfire wrote:Do you think our playerbase is big enough to bug Atari into releasing digital copies of NWN? People downloaded an illegal copy, wanted to play on Battle.net, couldn't find a key, and then they bought just the key from the company (or it could have been Diablo II) not sure, but I've read it somewhere.

Looks like it's out of print and more or less unavailable. However, for you PnP fans, a search of "Ultimate Dungeons & Dragons" turned up this:Moredo wrote:Is the Ultimate Dungeons and Dragons pack still in sale? Re: Neverwinter Nights
Part of the lawsuit involves distribution. Last year Infogrames sold off its European distribution group to Namco Bandai Partners. Hasbro and NBP are competitors in the action figure space. Hasbro argues that deal would give NBP insider information on Hasbro's confidential marketing strategies. Hasbro did protest the move to IGMS and IGMS initially pulled all Hasbro related product from NBP but then a couple months later reinstated them. Ultimately this led to the filing of the lawsuit by Hasbro.girlysprite wrote:I know D&D is Hasbro, but NwN1 was distributed by Atari. Or is that Hasbro property too?
Hasbro's looking to completely terminate their contract. Along with the NBP fiasco, they also claim non-performance. From this armchair, I think Hasbro's right and will win either via decision or Infogrames going into liquidation. But regardless who wins, I've lost: Infogrames shames the Atari name and Hasbro is completely out of touch with the RPG market.
Zebranky collected some of the documents and summarized them here:

I hate when I just miss a call by the last ring (Hello? Hello?), but when I immediately call back, it rings nine times and goes to voice-mail. What did you do after I didn't answer? Drop the phone and run away?

that is incredible. It looks like they have at least two copies of everything, absolutely everything, even vaguely related to D&D.
Now I know what D&D on OCD looks like.

The boyfriend: Can we do that to the dining room?
I am inclined to say yes.
