Dual-slotting weapons: A Warning

Post by solitude_peace2 » Fri May 22, 2009 5:02 pm

Dual slotted on the Quickbar, two hand axes (one does Acid damage, the other Positive damage). I logged off and the next day logged on. One of my weapons is missing and the Quickbar shows only one hand axe. I walk into a combat situation and find that my single weapon is now doing Acid AND Positive damage, which is curious. After a bit the weapon is behaving as it should and now I'm just down one axe.

After a conversation with a Veteran Player I found that this is a known bug.

So, if you find strange things happening with dual-slotted weapons just remember...

You were warned. Play on. I just RPed it as a lost weapon and made it part of my PC history.

It seems like one of the things that can do this is storing your items in a bag, and using the quickslot to pull them from your bag directly to your hand.
Success will be lovely, but you will have to go out and get it! Failure will invite itself in.

I can verify what Spool says, never store any quickslotted item that you have to equip in a bag. Consumables I'm not so worried about, but weapons, armor, jewelry, that sort of thing - if you swap it out through a quickslot - should not be stored in a bag.

Confirmed. Don't quickslot any items that are in bags, at least not if you care if you lose them.

Quickslotting dual-weapons is fine.

Anything in bags quickslotted, dual or not, is bad. (just as they said).

I've found the reverse .... dual slotting items always caused problems - early on I had real trouble with hammer and shield dual slotting (if in bags -awful. One of the reasons I switched to greatswords.) ..... quick slotting single items in a bag, no problems at all.

That's running a high risk quickslotting single items that are in bags. That is the single biggest cause for loss of items that I've seen reported or heard about.

It doesn't happen to everyone, but it increases the chances quite a bit.

Having a shield/weapon or weapon/weapon quickslot is presumably safe, because I've not heard of it being lost once before (yours would be the first.) Makes me think it was a very rare fluke (as where quickslotted + bags is pretty much expected), or it was something else that happened and you just blamed it on it being quickslotted.

Just warning you, again, because while you might not be having any problems at all yet, you're almost asking for it if you place items into bags and quickslot them as well. Not a risk I would be willing to take, and not a risk I prefer others to take.

It's worth adding here that you really are taking a risk, because the Team doesn't do restore requests for single lost items.

thanks for the info, I've been quickslotting Pilder's mace and shield and equipping them from a bag since he got them over 2 years ago....I won't be placing them in a bag now.
