Game reinstall problem after Hard Drive Crash
Okay techies, here's a puzzler or am i jsut being stoopid?
i had a hard drive crash, my boot drive. Put in a new one, re-installed everything I could think of, including NWN. Updated the game, downloaded all the haks and tlks and CEP's etc. Only problem is, when i log in to the game it runs like a two-legged dog, absolutely unplayable, graphics jerking so bad the character jumps about six feet horizontally instead of walking.
I've uninstalled and re-installed several times, no joy. I've even installed the CEP1.68 patch.that everyone warns you against using, made no difference at all.
Interestingly, I've now got my original boot drive working again, though the drive itself isn't reliable, when i boot on that drive, NWN plays fine.
When I run my new NWN install when I've booted from the old drive, it runs fine. When i run my old or new NWN install having booted from the new drive, dog-speed!.
I've reinstalled all the graphics drivers etc. but no luck. Can anyone think of something that I should have installed that I haven't? The window is lookign ever more atrtactive for an exit route for the entire PC at the moment
Cheers, Kev.

This usually proves to be graphics drivers I think.
Incidentally, the latest drivers are not always the best ones to use.
Good luck.
Edit - I assume you didn't install that awful Vista crap did you?

Life is never as bad as you think it is, although that doesn't help at the time.

if you have a dual core processor, dont forget to put the cpu affinity back to 0 or 1 in one of the .ini files of NWN
your symptoms seem to resemble this problem
EDIT: didnt see the part where you didnt have problems with your old startup...

That's a good point... check the graphics and DirectX version on your old Windows against your New Windows, and see if there's a difference.
Success will be lovely, but you will have to go out and get it! Failure will invite itself in.

All sorted, it was indeed the graphics drivers.
puzzling thing was that they wouldn't install from the CD (well, they said they did, but it made no difference) and when I checked on the web it said I had the latest drivers installed, I even uninstalled and reinstalled a few times. To fix it I had to copy all the files across from the original boot drive and then run the setup program on the new boot drive to make it work (and before you ask it couldn't have been because it detected the old files because I did it several times without that drive connected)
For info the graphics card is an Nvidia GE Force 5700 LE, which now runs perfectly!
Thanks again for all your suggestions.
