An old fart is in need of some nwn2 help

Post by Wyrmwing » Mon Nov 06, 2006 11:29 am

Hey there everyone, glad to see this community is still going strong :)

I picked up my copy of NWN2 the other day, but there's a lot of white spots and bars cluttering up my interface for some reason (going from the title screen to character creation and the game itself). Here's a screenshot of what I'm looking at right now: http://img223.imageshack.us/my.php?imag ... heszx7.jpg

I've updated my video drivers and played around with some graphics settings, but so far nothing I've tried has solved the issue. It almost looks to be an hardware-related issue, but I haven't encountered this with any other game installed on my system.

Can anyone offer any suggestions on what to do now?

I had a similar problem once. What remadiate it was to pull the plug extract the video card out of socket blow wind using a special aparatus for that into the socket to remove any dust that could have been responcible and readjust it back. Just an idea.

What are your system specs ?

Wyrm, do you run in windowed or full screen mode? try to swap back and forth or change to a resolution that is optimal for your screen (most people force other resolutions on screens since they are more pleasant to look at).

Also what graph card do you have, some cards have settings were they "stretch" and recalculate graph input to fit the screen turn it on or off and run in a "true" resolution.

my 2 cents

Hey buddy good to hear from you!!!!

One thing I found worked was anti-aliasing. When it was on I got lines on the screen. When I turned it off it was fine but that was in NWN1, NWN2 was autodetect and I've had no issues. But it might be worth a look

Thanks for all the answers everyone :)

Let's see.. the system specs from the top of my head:

Athlon XP 3000+ processor
Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe motherboard
2 512 MB sticks of RAM
GeForce 6600 GT videocard
Samsung Syncmaster 930BF 19" Flatscreen
Windows XP Pro
And assorted other bits.

I've tried switching resolutions, but all still have the same issue. Not sure how you run nwn2 in windowed mode though.. does that require altering the .ini file or something? I ccould't find the option in the game itself.

Maybe my case does need some dusting.. will have to check that tomorrow. I'm not sure what you mean by a 'special aparatus'.. I guess it's not a vacuum cleaner though ;)

There are some special ....spreys i would call them.... that can blow wind into slots etc so to remove the dust. Also there are small vacuum cleaners for this job.

Your graphics card is probably a bit underpowered for NWN2, especially with a 19" monitor.

I have the same exact graphic card model and i hadn't such artifacts even with everything to high and 1024x768 resolution. Of course it was going preety slow but then again to control it properly i needed to pause it so often that is hard to get the difference.

But i have a similar problem to that when i play FEAR. All my other games work fine but while FEAR was working ok for me at some point i had dumpted it . When i went to continue it after 2 months or so i started to get these strange artifacts. In my case the screen was filled with purple rectangles.....strange.... I mean if it was malfuncioning it would get similar effects in all the games....

Sometimes our computers just go crazy with certain games while with others they work perfectly.....as if the computers have their own personality...

I read the linked thread on NWN2.com and, disturbing as it is, there was some information that could prove helpful. Some people reported graphics trouble after uninstalling the toolset- a reinstall of the game (not incl. toolset) seemed to fix this until they got to Neverwinter. Others reported that setting textures to medium was very key to them... until they got a little further into the game at which point a lot of people were having trouble despite doing these things... yikes.
