3rd party macros for NWN
So, I'm trying to do something that I've seen others do, assign an external macro program to send multiple lines of text into the text box in NWN from a hotkey. But only the first line will work. Once the "press enter" function is sent (and yes I did it twice), all other keystrokes act like commands, e.g. "m" for map. (It's for a 24 line bard song, pain in the arse to copy and paste each line, and it's certainly not going to fit into a quickslot text macro).
Has anybody done this successfully? If so, using what program and commands? Are there any free macro making programs that could do it?
I've *seen* it done, so I know it can be done. I'm just too computer illiterate to figure it out myself.

Macs dont use ctrl-c, ctrl-v or something equivalent? Thats all I need to do to copy and paste a whole section of text into the chat line. Its great for speeches or ceremonies with everything written out beforehand.

Neither the Linux nor the Mac port allow for text pasting as they're based off the same source tree. Unfortunately anything you can't do on the mac version you can't do on the linux version.
A paste-buffer for these clients is definitely something that would get looked into when Bio finally ends support.

Hi, I'm NWN for the Mac...*big grin*
...and I'm NWN on a PC.
*grins more*
*looks bored*
So, NWN works really well on me, and check the hip ergo keyboard I come standard with!
That's nice. Type a lot?
Well, sure! on NWN I'm a bard...
... there's a shocker...
and so I'm typing constantly!
*raises one eyebrow* ... yeah. When I want to type a lot, I do it once, save the file, then just hit ctrl-v to paste it.
I don't have ctrl...
mhm. How're your wrists lately?
... you're not very nice, you know? In fact, you're kind of an ass.
Maybe, but I can still feel my fingers...
... I hate you.

It's mean because it's true.

Of course, it's the PC users who are always talking about min/max and ubers.

This reminds me of this Music Technology teacher I used to have at the Conservatory I attended. Not surprisingly, being a musician, he was very much a mac-lover. I am, on the other hand, one of the few musicians out there who swears by a PC running good ol' WinXP professional.
Of course discussions would start between him and me about Mac's never crashing and Windows PC's crashing all the time. And I would say "That just depends on the user, because I have my windows PC running smoothly without ever crashing". And he went like:
"Sure, but it will crash one day, as opposed to my sturdy mac which will never crash".
And promptly the Macintosh in the teaching room, running Digital Performer, stalled. And the only thing that could be done was actually unplugging the power supply physically to get it working again

Macintosh.....crash different...
Oh, and what was worse, is the lack of the Control key on those pesky mac's. Oh yes, they do have the key with the apple-pictogram on it. And this teacher would always refer to it as the "appeltje toets". "Toets" is dutch for key and "appeltje" is the small version of "Appel" which means Apple. So where I would go like "you have to press control V", he would go like "you have to press appeltje V"....

I could seriously never consider myself a professional musician using computers to do my work, nor could I look upon myself in the mirror without lauging at myself if I were to use terms like "appeltje" when using a computer

PS Don't ever take yourself seriously if you're a Mac owner because you have a mouse with only 1 button

I remember reading all the details about such a macro tool on ALFA, several years ago, so I know it exists. But at some point after that I was trying to go back over their boards and find the macro because I wanted to try it, and I couldn't find it. It must have gotten age-deleted or something. You might want to try the nwn.bioware.com boards... good luck!

I'm guessing this term is a holdover from the days from before it was a "command" key on an Apple PC, when there were two keys, one with the outline of an apple, and the other with the same shape only filled in. Here in the States, these were referred to as "open apple" and "closed apple."Curois wrote:Oh, and what was worse, is the lack of the Control key on those pesky mac's. I love that term "stalled". On a PC, we call it "locked up" or "frozen". You know you're hosed. Done. No mincing words... it' s all over. There's no hope, and the best you can try for is to only kill the frozen program, which is a crapshoot at best.Curois wrote: And promptly the Macintosh in the teaching room, running Digital Performer, stalled. Macs "stall"... like your car, you sit there beating on the steering wheel and begging the Almighty to just get you to the next gas station. A "stall" implies there's some hope that it'll get itself going again.. that somehow it'll cough a couple of times and come back to life. With a mac, the terms themselves try to look after your feelings, to make sure you still have that glimmer of hope... even when it's false.

This means I'm actually going to have to buy a macro program and figure it out myself.

My typing skills are as high as they are ever going to get.

Most of the songs I do in game I'm making up on the spot (and that's probably obvious given their quality), but I'd like to have a repertoire of about 10 songs that I can fire off without giving myself carpal tunnel.
Macros oh my
What did you end up using? I'd like to hear more about this please...I got the macro to work.
