My new Portraits don't seem to work

Post by othotbail » Fri Mar 03, 2006 1:20 am

I have downloaded from this site a slew of new portraits for the Neverwinter Nights game but I can never get any new ones to come up during character creation. I know I am doing something wrong and what I understand to do is to create a folder in the NWN folder and name it portraits. Then place the 4 picture files for each character into that folder. The people on this site fixed the problem I had not being able to log on to any server except Mikona in one day. I know someone can explain how I go about using all these new portraits. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. Otho Wolf ( ranger of small renown )

Actualy there's 5 pictures required for each in-game portrait.

In my experience, if any of the images is missing the game engine ignores that portrait and won't display it at character creation, or use it in-game.

This same issue just came up on the Bioware boards. I don't know the answer but you can try to figure it out over here

Based on this discussion here it makes me think they have to be named correctly in order for them to be brought up when you go to make a character. I can't remember right off.

If you intend to make your own portrait to use, check this link out. It specifically states (just like someone said):

The filenames for the five versions must follow this pattern:

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxh.tga (for the 256x512 canvas)
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxl.tga (for the 128x256 canvas)
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxm.tga (for the 64x128 canvas)
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxs.tga (for the 32x64 canvas)
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxt.tga (for the 16x32 canvas)

Where the prefix "xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" is a name you create, is 1 to 15 characters in length, and the same for all five versions.

..you also have to take them out of the folder/file they are downloaded in and put them all in the C:\NeverwinterNights\NWN\portraits folder, but I am sure you already did that..

Strange the portraits I downloaded came from the Neverwinter nights website. I will go double check the folder again and see if it is something simple I am doing wrong. Thanks for all the help.

It might be that the last character of the filename needs to be in uppercase (as they all are on my machine)

xxxH.tga (for the 256x512 canvas)
xxxL.tga (for the 128x256 canvas)
xxxM.tga (for the 64x128 canvas)
xxxS.tga (for the 32x64 canvas)
xxxT.tga (for the 16x32 canvas)

Thanks for all the help one of the problems was I had folders containing the information inside my portraits folder. I changed the name of the portraits folder to old portraits so I wouldn't lose the pictures and then created a new folder and put all the portraits alone in that folder. I seem to have gotten some of them to work but I have women in the mens gender. I didn't check the womens gender for men yet. At least I have a good 30 or so new portraits. Thanks again in advance for any further help. I have never played an online game where everyone was so nice as this one before. I will have to get my wife a computer upgrade so she can play also. Otherwise I am afraid this game will cost me my marriage. I have another question but I will start a new post for it.
