Item Level restriction
Last night I bought a ring from ROTE and I can't use due to it's high magic level. After a number of serches on the forums I would just like to know if there is an in game in character way to discover at which level I will be able to use it...not just waiting and trying each time I level up.
Surely it is the kind of information that Identify or apprasial by a merchant should show up. If not is it the kind of thing that some learned NPC would be able to establish?
because If I find out I'm unable to use this till 10th level or something It's going back to the shop.
Thanks

To my knowledge, there is no IG way of finding out at what level you could use an item. The CLOSEST would be if someone like a mage said: "I was able to master the magic of that ring about the same time I mastered the 3rd Circle of Magic". Thus when that PC got to 5th level mage, they could use the item.
To figure out OOC, it's pretty easy to just open up the toolset and look for that item in the pallette. The Item Level Restriction is listed. Of course...most of us don't have access to the Avlis specific pallette, but if it's a Bioware item it's easy to check. If it ISN'T a Bioware item, simply recreate a similar item with the same properties in the toolset and see if it would tell you.
I DO think it would be neat if someone could somehow determine that type of information IG. Maybe someone with a High Lore? Perhaps artificers get their Artificer level added to their Lore check? Probably not worth the effort to Code, but it would be neat.

you know, that's not a bad idea.slave_of_emotions wrote:easiest would be if you get damaged based on how big the level differeance is, for example, if its a level 10 ring and you are level 5 then you get 5 points magical or electrical dmg for trying wear this item. Someone that gats hurt only abit would know that he can wear is soon.

Currently there is no physical damage from trying on things outside your level range. You get the lightning effect and it removes it.
But hey, I have nothing against people taking damage from it, but then this is coming from someone who is still bitter about a rosebush incident a few years back and wants to share the love.
