Please put back the old crafting menus ;)

Post by Dirk Cutlass » Wed Sep 14, 2005 4:03 pm

The new crafting menu sure must have been a lot of work, and it looks real nice. But the bulk vs research thing is a real pain. How on Avlis am I supposed to make any XP doing metal work 5 ingots at a time? It really is stupid.

There's always this talk of fun vs realism, well this one has gone too far the wrong way in my opinion.

Metal crafting takes ages, and to have to sit and click like that is the dullest thing in the world, plus with the round-downs you lose XP compared to the old system.

So, please please please, can we get rid of the bulk / research thing?

I'm using bulk mode for metalwork and still getting XP. At least I think I am, I certainly am for Carpentry.

Ah.. its a bug for metalworkers apparently (Bug#1657).

Thanks for the response people. Well, in that case, if it is supposed to give XP in bulk mode, then .. its a wonderful new crafting menu system. Yay !

I almost always craft in bulk mode, and get regular experiance.

I only have had one bug (now reported) with the new system, and that was things that were trivial to me that are now easy again, are not giving experiance.

I LOVE the new menus! :D

I get this too. Cloth is now easy to make from trivial before yet I don't get XP even if I try to make one at a time. Was this bug resolved or is it still pending or is this how it's now supposed to be?

Weird, should give XP I would have thought. Must be a bug.

@Team: probably best to move to General Discussion now me thinks. It looks like my problem is a specific one caused by a bug with iron ingots (Bug#1657). I've just tried some non-metalworking, and it works as other report. Wonderful.

research mode can wipe out an bags you put on the table, so be careful about what you put on the table in research mode, a few people have complained of loosing magic bags on the new tables in research mode.

There are several differences, but you should try to find out in-game. I can't say I know them all exactly, but some of the differences I do know would be IC things.

Heck, my PC and another one had a half hour IC conversation on this very subject yesterday. :P

I personally prefer the new system, anything that is lost is more then made up by advancements to the ease of use of the whole system :-)

I love the chance to either bulk craft or craft fewer items in research mode :-)

The new system is great :-)

I also had no bad experience with the new system. Team, i even find it great that one now has two easy seasons!

Bulk crafting on trivial items for sure give no XP and never gave.

If you research something what you have never done, even it is trivial it gives XP now, which I find really great!

Bulk crafting on easy, challenging and hard items will give you XP.

Please let this system in it is fanatastic! :good:

New system or old, it was never very wise to leave your bags on the table. All it takes is an ill timed server crash and poof ...

I agree, but that could be solved by saving just before doing a crafting run - I learnt my lesson after losing a lot of crafted items after a crash.

Yes, I fixed a bug with the "very easy" level and need to roll it out to the rest of the servers. You should be getting xp on the Wilderness. Not quite in yet, but next rev I'll change the difficulty tag to "very easy" to differentiate between that level and "easy"

from my understanding, research mode will provide hints towards making something.

Try IC by putting ingrediants on the table and try something you don't know. But be careful, my understanding is that it wipes out stuff on the table even if you don't get it right.

There have been quite a few posts about people losing bags on the table. And this is the intended result from my understanding.

Favorites are broken. Unfortunately fixing it is low priority. No, I'm not looking for a subcontractor for it, if I work out the problem enough to explain it, then I can do it myself :D
