Oh, and also, Ten would like to add:

I've always found this simple questionnaire to be the key:

1- Are you having fun with the character?
Yes - Then keep playing. Who cares if your plan has changed, or things aren't going how you want them to. See what happens, that's half the fun of Avlis.

No - Well... if you aren't having fun, why bother? Try something different, maybe you'll find waht you were missing. Maybe it'll give you a different perspective, and you can come back tot he character later, refreshed, and thus enjoy that first character once more. All up to you.

2- Are things going the way you "planned" for the character?
Yes - Well and good... stick to it, if that's what you want. If you answered Yes to #1, then you're fine. If No... well, maybe you need to rethink that plan.

No - This is iffy... if you answered Yes to #1, then just run with it! See where your character ends up, it may be something entirely different than what you first envisioned them being, and that, in itself, is rewarding... sometimes the destination isn't as important as the path you took to get there. If you answered No to #1... well, maybe you should try again, with your plan. Get back on track and see if your luck improves... maybe it will, maybe it won't, but it's worth a shot.

That's about all there is to it in the Fuzzy Book of RP.

As for character builds, only Shaktar has ever worked out remotely the way I originally planned, and that is cos he reached level 10 in about 6 months, which is damnably quick.

Kered, believe it or not everyone, was supposed to be a Blackguard build. It is almost annoying how out of character it would be for Kered to become one now. Just imagine how much of a badass he would be, considering he routinely walks around with a Cha of 30.

Always assume that whatever "build" you have in mind, it will almost certainly change over time, so go for a solid but flexible build, rather than an intricate, uber one.

I play two characters that are quite different in terms of "power".

One PC is pretty powerful Epic and can solo and frontline just about anywhere.

One PC is more of a support PC that combat heals that cant solo cause he will get his ass kicked right now. In the long run he might be "powerful".

I enjoy both of them equally and its nice to switch roles in terms of combat.

In terms of RP I love playing both of them and I play with some great Rpers.

Point is keep both of your characters If you have FUN playing them.

RP and leveling slowly is like making Love vs. A one night stand.

The one night stand you kick out the door quickly but the one you love will stay around and mean much more to you :D
