Favourite Missile Weapon

Post by Fifty » Sun Jul 24, 2005 10:14 am

What is your main characters favourite ranged weapon? Comments on why that is, and what your favourite is welcome below.

Kered and Shkatar both use slings. Laen is a longbow man. (*winks*)

(Oh yeah, btw, I know what I said abuot polls, but I have an actual question I am interested in, this is not just some frivolous post building exercise)

Most of my characters use longbows, just because I like them most, and it is usually not a problem finding enough arrows. One of my alts uses a light crossbow because it fits her best.

Longbow, my main is an elf who tends to use a longbow exclusively, draws plenty of AoO, but heh...........

My main uses a light crossbow; best fit for the character.
Personally, I prefer longbows (I have two), but I am also partial to composite bows: http://www.grozerarchery.com/index_b.htm

Having thought about it, my main might switch to a shortbow, if he finds one that beats his light crossbow. I think it fits with the way the character is evolving.

I play an elf, which pushes a large way towards the choice for a bow. Plus, as Aerill mentioned, easy to find ammunition.

I rarely use ranged stuff though. 1d8+2 Doesn't really cut it anymore at level 17.

Shortbow here.. you just try pulling the drawstring of a huge longbow as a small STR 10 elf :) Plus it looks better than a longbow to me onscreen.

Where's the option for "cannon"?

My main character doesn't use a ranged weapon. Unless you count Dimension Door, then I guess you would have to say his ranged weapon of choice is himself

A shortbow is the choice for my main... simply because she can't handle most other ranged weapons...

But being this is a Mahagony Shortbow, the most powerful craftable bow on Avlis, and would blow your head clean off, you got to ask yourself one question... Do I feel lucky. Well, do ya fiend?"

Yep. Though my main has been known to whip out his "Palemaster's Heavy Crossbow" from time to time.

Longbow for getting attention from the monsters... usually fires about 20 warning shots (aka misses)

I use a composite shortbow. Simple reason, I picked up a good one after a DM event. I wouldnt expect to easily trade for an equivalent longbow and the difference between the longbows and shortbows is marginal anyway.

For Shelly, the biggest crossbow he can get his hands on. Hell, he'd use a ballista if he had an ogre to carry it around for him.

Pansies! Real fighters kill their enemies in close combat so you get the blood and guts all over you. You can't call yourself a real fighter otherwise. :P

I am not at all surprised to see how those results are starting to fall out actually.
