Lag and a nasty one
Sorry for posting my first post adressing this issue but I just could not believe the lag that I had today in the city of Mirkona, above and below ground.
If anyone has any good suggestions I will gladly try them out.
As the world, the little I saw looks awesome.
Maybe I have been spoilt on Glorwing with little or no lag but the experience just fades when you spend 10 minutes trying to talk to people in a tavern without much success, and being hauled back 3 times out of 4 when walking the streets.
So constructive help please!! Cause I feel an urge to discover more of this world.
A little helper on my part;
My connection is 8MB?s
My comp is brand new siemens with a Radeon 9800 xt, 1Gb ddr Ram and a 3.19 Ghz processor.
I do have a switch with a hardware D-Link firewall so any good suggestions on what to fo will be greatly appreciated.
Ps Thanks to Torun for helping me out earlier as well.

People on the team are working hard to figure out why in the Nine Hells of Baator lag in Mikona is as bad as it is...
A rule of thumb:
Although there are various and inexplainable reasons for lag to happen, the more cool the place is, the more lag it has got. That's why Elysia is almost lag free.
GO Mikona!

Lag happens. with the kit you have you should be able to max out everything going and still play better than most people.

A few lag-busting tips:
1) Avoid getting frustrated and cicking too many times to move, it only makes things worse.
2) Use keyboard to move your PC (rather than mouse-clicking). Path-finding is computationally expensive and can cause lag. I find it best to drive with the keyboard, and only click-move for things like transitions and doors, etc. - and only where it is a nice straight line (and therefore easy for the server to compute).
3) Don't try to move too much in one go, take a breather and let the server catch up with you.
4) Steer a wide path around NPCs it will make collision detection / avoidance simpler for the path-finding algorthim (for the NPCs and you if you are click-moving) and is less likely to end up in you bumping into them.
But, as already mentioned Mikona is suffering badly at the moment. Other servers are not so bad. From my experience over the last 2 or 3 weeks, I'd rate the lag as follows (subjective only):
Mikona (most lag) - v.bad
Elysia - some difficulty moving
Wilderness - quite playabele
Le'Or / Ferrell / Deglos (least lag) - no lag no note

And another tip to fight lag is to not party unless it's necessary and to avoid creating large parties if possible. More info here:

If this is correct, could some someone add it to the new player info?Dirk Cutlass wrote:A few lag-busting tips:

heat seaking npcs
i kinda guessed that the collisions couldn't be helping on teh server so i've tried deliberatly to avoid walking too close to npcs that i dont need to interact with.
however: what to do with those nasty 'oiliey kenders' or whatever her name in in the mikona square who has a nasty heat seeking habit of leaping into your path or coming up to you from behind to throw herself in your way.
if only there was an *emote*->put foot in backside ....

Mist, looks to me like Mikona's still a bit on the slow side, minor improvement maybe. But Wilderness, it got zippy skippy. They were on the same cpu yes?Mistcaller wrote:Mikona has been moved to a standalone machine for the time being with a different OS. Could I have some feedback now please concerning lag?

No. Mikona was installed along with Elysia after the server move. Wilds share a machine with Ferrell currently.Emprod wrote:Mist, looks to me like Mikona's still a bit on the slow side, minor improvement maybe. But Wilderness, it got zippy skippy. FYI only Myst/Team:
Both ferrell and Wilderness very skippy yesterday, with minimal players on, while Elysia was loaded with players and almost no lag.
Time was 1800 to 2000 EST
Also, Ferrell resets seemed to be off over the weekend, logged out Friday night on Ferrell, logged in Sunday and didn't get the Start Area screen.
I read somewhere that there are some memory optimization that needs to be done after the upgrade, so posted this hoping it helps.
