Mining....

Post by Thunderforge » Sun Oct 17, 2004 10:28 am

I hope I don't get hanged upside down by my tow nails for asking a question as I'm about to ask.... :)

I'm only a young dwarven lad off about 3 seasons old but I've already decided that my future lays in crafting , being a dwarf and all you know.

So after some 'askin around I've been told that I can find some Iron deposits to mine near a place call Nanshi Urbaz somewhere in Deglos. I found the ore after much traveling but with some disappointment...For some reason when I try and mine it I get a message "You must use the proper tool" I'm I missing something 'ere, Everyone I've asked IG thus far told me to use a light 'ammer. I've even baught I pic axe but are still unable to mine.

Some 'elp would be greatly appreciated....

You need to find a "Miner's Pick". Normally, you should ask about this in game, but the system has been changed recently, and people are apparently not aware of the change yet.

yep, ore shovels are still useful. Not for mining though, they never were. Its a time saver to sort your ore and move it about instead of having to manually click on each piece in your inventory or the crafting apparatus.

That sounds more right, still, a small amount.

Well, I wouldn't say they aren't useful for mining. They were made when iron was really the only ore that saw widespread use, so sadly it's scripts were never written with anything else in mind. When iron mining, they can be invaluable, unless you're one of those people who doesn't like encumbering their character.

As you rightly point out, though, they're extremely useful in unloading forges. The new load options for the crafting placeables have cut down on the need for them in loading, however.

I agree, I was just giving a short answer. What I meant to express was that you don't actually mine the ore directly with a shovel. A lot of people imagine you do when they first see the thing and are new to mining. That includes me a long time ago too. It certainly is useful in arranging your ore during mining.

FYI - there is ore now available in Deglos, ore that is not behind looked/guarded doors.

See me in game if you are looking for directions.

I just discovered that though my ore shovel works fine in Deglos it doesnt work in Ferrell. The menu just doesnt appear when you use it. Anyone else having this problem? Ill check the bug tracker now.
