Ok so far things have not been good.

Got my password earlier everything was good.

Then I jumped in made my pc and started off. Got pretty much killed by an urban sprite straight away. then I was stuck in hades struggling to kill the souls. In the end I need a break :x

Then joined later and asked some one to show me around. She said yes and I thought things were looking up but low and beold some one else comes. A scythe wielding newbie killer! Would have been nice if I had a warning tell before she killed me. Of course afterwards said person had a need to justify them selves saying that my grey skinned elf is not allowed.

Still woulda been nice if I had at least a warning.

see ... should have taken my advice

PS Grey skinned elves? I don't think there's an issue with those. Report the death to the EDF (Elysian Defence Force). Let's assume it was an IC mistake, rather than someone killing newbies for the fun of it, as there's very few of those in Avlis.

PPS Don't get too ambitious when starting out - rosebushes can kill you at first level !!

Dark grey elf like drow?

Those aren't allowed and why someone would try to make something close to it is beyond me because you will likely be killed a lot by people assuming you are sereg. Some people will see you and explain, others will just attack.

I didn't know sprites attacked people randomly.

Better luck on day two.

Part of the dialogue with the sprite was calling her short...

My character didn't look very drowish, though I now understand about the Seregs

I believe Avlissian elves are either very pale skinned, or completely white. As long as it isn't dark grey I would have thought you would be ok though. Sounds a bit greifish to me, maybe it is another noob who doesn't quite understand all the do's and don'ts.

But at least you got your passwords quickly. How many times a day did you check? :)

Sereg are black. Not grey, not dark blue, not dark grey: Black.
But yes, Drow could be a mistake made, but not Sereg. Anyone claiming that you are a Sereg is a tit

Sorry, if I see a dark grey elf running around, my first thought would be sereg. I am not going to run up and check a black fabric swatch to match and make sure it is true black, flat black, not dark grey or charcoal or maybe even slate. Just my opinion though.

Welcome to Avlis. I'm sorry that you had a bad experience. Hopefully you can chalk it up as a learning experience and move on. :) You happened to run into one of our few restrictions that can make the game very harsh for the uninitiated.

Here is the rules forum: viewforum.php?f=147.
In the rules forum is a sticky about the rules for elven skin color on Avlis: viewtopic.php?t=33313.

As Jordi says, ignorance is not an excuse. I suggest you remake your character with a lighter skin tone. Perhaps your skin was a very light grey and you were being griefed. If that's the case, send an email to staff@avlis.org and we will look into it. We take these things very seriously.
Enverex wrote:Sereg are black. Not grey, not dark blue, not dark grey: Black.
That's a weak defense for an elf of that color. (See the links above.) If I saw an elf with black-ish skin, I would attack them on sight with a cry of "Sereg!", and send them and anyone who defended them to their death planes. I would explain why in a tell afterwards, but not beforehand.

It's pure black, it always looks exactly the same, i.e. darkest colour on your monitor, but, whatever you feel....

I find that this the best way to teach players to go read the rules about races on Avlis. I'm not the one that usually does the killing, Im the one that usually blocks the newbie from attacking the killer bare-handed once they return from their death plane. Then the conversation becomes a strange mixture of OOC tells and IC information until everything is sorted.

And just like Kat says, I'm not going to hold it against anyone for not being picky about the shade of dark grey/black. Not everyone can be faultless like Enverex, it takes years and years of being a jerk to reach that level of perfection.

Remembering all the IC and OOC rules can be daunting, there is a lot to read through. And then there is all the information about guilds and crafting and nations and gods and the various wars and PrC restrictions and etcetera and so forth and so on...

Good luck with that blitz- :)

Avoiding death is a skill, speaking while dead is an illness but giving a death is my job.

Fey are savage. I still die to them as a rogue occasionally at level 9. 'Ware the Nymphs; for an "effortless" creature, the DC 22 will save or die is a bit much.

Also, given their fairly substantial combat abilities, I think fey should be worth more exp. I can handle bugbears to a point, and even undead in some places, but the fey are problematic, even with the right weapons. And yet, they're worth paltry amount of experience. :-P

Then team up. There's tons of characters out there wanting to open a can of whoop ass on them sprites. Unless they are lebian pixies. I warn you now, do not hurt the lesbian pixies!

Oh, I do. :-D

However, while there may be "tons of characters" wanting to do it. I don't think going to Elf gate and yelling "hey, does anyone want to kill some fey?!" is likely to bring a lot of volunteers.

Hey Blitz, fancy meeting you here ;)

Hey all. I just got my approval today, so I've been wandering around the elf city. Can't say I'm too keen at the moment, the promise of Avlis isn't quite living up to the barren, lifeless shell I'm seeing here.

I'm going to make a PC on one of the other servers and try there.

I'm far from a powergamer, but I have to admit I dislike the paucity of XP/gold to start with. I'm all for RP but I'd rather not RP a pennyless drifter unless it's my idea.
Still finding my feet here.

You happen to be in a less populated timezone. Give it some time. :) Also, if you want to be rich, it's quite easy - especially if your character isn't saddled with morals.

There's quite a few of us aussies floating around here, but yeah, it can be pretty quiet in the evenings sometimes. You just have to know where to look though, and there's usually enough people to make it interesting. If you haven't read this viewtopic.php?t=32782 yet, it's good stuff to know. Also, if you find your way to Mikona, send me a tell and I'll be happy to show you around (Character Shelly Maroon). Most others will too, so don't hesitate to ask. Just give it time, and you'll see why we're all so addicted to it :)

Oh, and if you're looking for something to do, or an idea for another character, you can always join the pirate band....
