Quite possibly looking for a new home in the near future

Post by Aryn Ravenlocke » Sun Jul 25, 2004 5:04 am

I am currently a rather dedicated member of a different PW server. It is a wonderful world with many things going on ALL the time. we have GM run quests nearly everday and a dedicated and helpful GM and content team. It is however, a world that is quickly becoming no longer waht it once was. Many of the things I liked so much about the world are going by the wayside. I thought perhaps that I would be able to fully embrace this new, different, "better" world that is being developed there. However, the more I stick around, the more I miss the old way the world worked. So, I have decided to possibly move on get a fresh start with a fresh "feel". I believe that is what i am most in need of. The "feeel" that I once had there seems to be missing now.

Do not get me wrong. I am in no way bashing or degrading my current home. I simply want to get my feet wet somewhere else in case things continue moving in an uncomfortable direction for me. The number one thing keeping me there currently is that I am a member of the quest GM team and above all else getting to tell my stories is a priority to me. But as a player there, things are no longer what they once were. I figure if the "feel" of the world is going to change form a player stand-point, then the world might as well also.

To give everyone an idea of what I am coming from, below is a comment from our forums provided by one of our SR Staff leaders in response to inquiries from someone doing there exactly what I am here, looking for a possible new home.

Lets see... what makes us different... we've reworked a lot of systems within the game that many PW's overlook. Like experience and item reqs. Layonara is lower magic than many PW's out there. Not that we limit mages and clerics, but in the rarity or goods and magics. They exist, they are craftable, but we have set firmer reqs about when a player can use them. Its not easy to get used to, but it keeps even high level players excited when they get a new piece of equipment. Same with experience. We addressed the simple fact that on PW's many players play hundreds of hours a month. We allow advancement up to 40th level, but getting there is difficult and takes a long long time. Our highest level players are currently 20th. We're thinking we'll see out first epic PC's in a month's time or so. Lower level advancement is fairly quick. A player can reach level 7 in under a week usually.

We have a few hundred Custom Icons.

750 custom creatures, that were made to inspire players to team up. Meaning when they were created they were created assuming it would be a party fighting them.

We encourage roleplay, but we also have plenty of action. So players can get the best of both.

Last month we ran over 40 GM'd quests.

We have a few Layonara Specific PrC's, and hope to be adding more as time wares on.

We have a fairly indepth subrace system, using dynamic item properties and player hides.

We have a fairly indepth spell component system, that allows either the purchase or harvesting and crafting (intergrated into the CNR) of components to cast spells.

We have Custom Feats, and will be adding more in the near future.

We have a dedicated and loyal player base that are often on all hours.

We have a hand tailored beautifuly crafted world.

We have an expanded CNR system, that includes 4 or 5 new crafts, and original crafts that have been greatly expanded.

Layonara isn't an easy world. We encourage party play. We encourage roleplay. But Layonara is also fairly unique I think in what we have accomplished.

Anyway, that's pretty much everything I guess. I hope to continue learning more about Avlis as I browse your forums and look at various comments. Hopefully some time this weekend I will get a chance to log in and play in the world for a brief while and see what this place is like.

Once again, I am not in anyway degrading Layonara or bashing anything about it. Please do not take this as such. Nor is this an attempt at some shameless plug. If you liked what you read about the world above, feel free to give us a look. But the prpose of the above was solely so that you all might have a better idea of the background I am coming from while I look about here.

Same for both here too..

Same here

Same here, though I heard rumours of a level 35, and level 1-7 is pretty slow too, first time around anyway.
We have a few hundred Custom Icons.
Same here. Do not know about numbers
750 custom creatures, that were made to inspire players to team up. Meaning when they were created they were created assuming it would be a party fighting them.
Same intentions here, I know, not sure about actual figures

...broken record* :)
Last month we ran over 40 GM'd quests.
Waaaaaaay higher.
We have a few Layonara Specific PrC's, and hope to be adding more as time wares on.
7 extra Holy Warrior classes
We have a fairly indepth subrace system, using dynamic item properties and player hides.
Uses Red Golem's custom race generator, do not know the mechanics of it.
We have a fairly indepth spell component system, that allows either the purchase or harvesting and crafting (intergrated into the CNR) of components to cast spells.
Nope, don't do that, but the crafting components element might make up for it
We have Custom Feats, and will be adding more in the near future.
Only detect evil
We have a dedicated and loyal player base that are often on all hours.
8)
We have a hand tailored beautifuly crafted world.
8)
We have an expanded CNR system, that includes 4 or 5 new crafts, and original crafts that have been greatly expanded.
Amazingly detailed crafting here, though I am not a fan myself their are a HUGE number of players involved in crafting and it is very much a level based system with it's own indepth progression.
Layonara isn't an easy world. We encourage party play. We encourage roleplay. But Layonara is also fairly unique I think in what we have accomplished.
*looks up*
