Newbie needs help....

Post by The hand04 » Tue Jul 06, 2004 3:39 am

Hello everybody, I want to introduce myself, people just call me Hand.... Actually I am very new when it comes to nw role play, but i've always wanted to try it and see how it goes.... I frequent pvp servers like nwtactics, and I also do some modding.... I just wanted to know what to do? and how to get started? I'm pretty excited about my new step into the role playing world....

Welcome to Avlis!

Your 2 best bets are to download and read the two guides here:

portal.php?getpage=documents

Mucho info there.

This girl at lunch today told me to 'talk to the hand' so I figured I'd better post here. Welcome to Avlis.

Alright i'm reading the guide little by little and have filled out the application.... I have one question, can someone give me a list of the hackpaks that need installed... It says on my guide to install the CoPaP, but do I need the CEP? I'm pretty confused.... Then there is a CoPaP patch?

Version 1.01(CEP)? What is that? I have the latest bioware patch 1.62....

I could use an easy step by step procedure, thanks for the help....

Hi.

There are two things needed for Avlis:
1: The Avlis HakPaks
2: The CEP v1.01

Both are available here.

that is the right file ... almost

rar is a compression format like zip. the tlk file you need is actually compressed inside the rar file.

The rar that I put into the tlk directory was not a zipped file, nor was it when I downloaded it... I had to do the complete install to get the tlk file that was required(It automatically was placed in the tlk directory), because I couldn't find it on the download site.... Downloading all the haks was no trouble because I intend to travel all the servers and experience what they have to offer... Perhaps the website moderator should post the tlk file that I mentioned *points up towards prior post* earlier, so people don't "have" to download the full install.... But again, it was no trouble to me....

Also, I read similar posts to troubleshoot the problem I had and all of them went unresolved....

You need to go to http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm and download WinRAR, and then RAR files will show up as compressed files (not zipped.) I realize it's too late for you, but know you know for next time. :)

I know of one other thread with the same problem where I posted this same answer: viewtopic.php?t=32191&highlight=rar. Doing a search I did notice that there was one other person who made multiple posts about the same problem you did. I have replied to one of his posts with the same infomration on how to obtain a program to open rar files. Thanks for pointing this out.

Ok I understand now, I have read that posted but I didn't quite understand what it meant(about the "compressed file"). I thought that meant zipped files, and yes I did try to zip it and stick it in the nwn tlk file *slaps himself in the head*.... But thank you dougnoel I really appreciate your help alot....
