How can i make custom portraits?

Disclaimer : No i'm not making a custom portrait for an Avlis PC, its a general question.

I want to use an image from the WoTC site, an epic blackgaurd desktop background and make it into a portrait for use in NWN. Its for a weekly game session with a group of people who will be downloading eachothers portraits. So no, the fact no one else with the portrait can't see it isn't an issue.

To be honest i don't have a) the software b) the knowhow c) the ability to learn how. But someone post it anyway and i'll try to work it out or get someone else to do it for me.

I think I saw some guides on nwvault.com. I'd try there.
