Summons vfx causing crashes
For curiousity.. is anyone else having issues recently with the purple vfx creature summon effect (makes that high pitched noise as well) causing the game to crash. I don't know when this started but all of the sudden i'm consistently crashing when this fires off. Using nvidia hardware (1080) on 419.67 drivers.
If it's not just me.. has anyone found a way to stop it? I've tried a critical rebuild now.. overrides are empty.

I haven’t had this particular crash, but whenever I’ve had sudden graphics issues pop up in the past, it has been due to a driver update. Did you update yours recently? I haven't had any issues with 417.22, but not so sure about 419.67.
Maybe try rolling back drivers, and turning auto-update off if it isn’t already.
Good luck!

Game on.

auto update is off for a long time
but i did update the drivers maybe 6 weeks ago? Needed the newer drivers for other games I play

Re: Summons vfx causing crashes
Environmental mapping on creatures was causing it. WHy? i dunno.. since it wasn't a creature. Shame since it's been fine for years with all the advanced options on.. oh well

It's hard to pin those crashes down in NWN classic. I regularly crash on the west side of the Ferrell Southlands for no apparent reason. It is the only area that causes that to occur. Can't figure out why either.

Re: Summons vfx causing crashes
There are many glitchy (broken) models in the haks that can cause issues with video cards and drivers depending on how they are placed (like those big gems buried into walls and floors). Sometimes it is a combination of more than one model with VFX trying to work together. Newer drivers and cards seem to be having more issues these days with the old game. Shiny water usually is the culprit (though not in this case), and it even has issues with standard BioWare models in some areas that I know of.
Disabling the "Environmental Mapping On Creatures" turns off a lot of things that can cause problems like that, but you'll run into other glitches with clothing and armor looking translucent or other weirdness with it off too.
Can you be more specific about the "purple vfx creature summon effect (makes that high pitched noise as well)"? I'm not sure where that comes from, but I'll take a look and see if I can figure out what is wrong with it. No promises, but maybe I can whip up a fixed version that you can toss in override or a hak, so you don't have to turn off that setting.

That'd be great Gorgon. You can get the vfx in question by using ##dm_visualeffect 34.
Re: Summons vfx causing crashes
Think i fixed it. I was able to successfully trigger the vfx without crashing. I forced a reset of the nwn.exe profile with nvidia profile inspector. Now it works with mapping turned on.
