Amazon

Post by Zerub » Mon Dec 21, 2015 4:37 pm

Figured a few of you would know, so sending this out here. My step-brother lives in Japan. He and his family are coming home for Christmas. I wanted to get them something, but they have such a small apartment there, I am not sure what to do even. Figured I might just get them a gift card of sorts so that they can get what they need when back in Japan. If I get them an Amazon Gift Card, can they use that with no problem in Japan? I assume they can, but want to make sure I am not missing something.

Thanks.

I wouldn't count on it since the card is likely going to be keyed to U.S currency. The only way to be absolutely sure is if you somehow could figure out how to order it through Amazon's Japanese counterpart at http://www.amazon.co.jp/

I have a somewhat similar situation but my friend is in Germany instead of Japan. What you need to do is start an account on the Amazon Japan website and do your ordering through it. My US credit card worked fine, and gave immediate euro to dollar conversion, so I'm betting the same for the Japanese site.

Last year there was no German-English version so I needed to use Google Translate, which worked surprisingly well. This year the German website had an English beta version, and worked great. I'm hoping the Japanese site has English as well, but finding gift cards shouldn't be too difficult.

Hope that helps some.
