Connection issue: NWN, linux & a mobile broadband connection

Status:
I spend a lot of time traveling, so I often find myself playing NWN while on the bus, train etc.
I currently use a Nokia 2700 Classic as a dial-up modem, usb-wired to my Ubuntu 10.04 system. I sometimes use bluetooth instead of the usb cable.

Problem:
The problem is, every now and then the game starts disconnecting every approx. 30 seconds ("Server response timed out. You have been disconnected."). Sometimes the connection manages to stay alive if I notice the lag spike on time and spam /check craftxp, inventory screen browses and the like. I'm not really sure whether this helps or not, but the disconnection series has never ceased by itself. Sometimes the issue never appears at all, at least for a few hours. I'd say its occurrences are random, but I don't believe in random - unless I somehow managed to route the connection through my /dev/random... In the meantime, web browsers & file downloads, my IRC client, Skype - none of these seem to suffer any connection issues at all.

While trying to pin-point the exact reason for that issue I checked the following:
- cell phone & notebook battery statuses don't seem to be a factor,
- neither does the strength of broadband signal received,
- neither does the speed of my travel (→ switching from one station to another) - the problem persists even if I'm not moving at all,
- neither does the way I connect the cell phone to the computer, USB or Bluetooth,
- amount of background traffic and the apps running in the background don't seem to play a role either.

Any ideas, Avlis network gurus?

Does your phone IP change when this happens? Just to be clear not not the pc's IP but the IP of your phone?

This is the first thing that comes to my mind. I'm not a nwn server specialist though so this is just a wild guess.
