Windows 7 64 bit?
Is anyone running Win 7 64 bit? How well does NWN run in that version, any glitches?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Windows 7 64 bit?
It seems to be hit and miss, perhaps due to driver compatibility with graphics cards and whatnot, but personally I'm having no problems.

Mine runs okay. It crashes on occasion.
Integrated graphics really blows if you're using a laptop or inexpensive desktop because the CPU is pulling double-duty (game engine + graphics). I find the lag becomes unbearable during war events. Plan on using a desktop with slightly better graphics for those many-character events from now on.

Re: Windows 7 64 bit?
I run Win7 64-bit. Every once in a while, I'll crash; usually when going through a transition.
Also, I've noticed that the longer I play, the choppier the game gets. A restart of NWN fixes this.

I have run win 7 64 bit professional for more than a year, I have nvidia I never experience an in game crash. I changed three laptops all with different nvidia gpu, I never tried on integrated.
I experience gamespy crashes that are probably due to the weird way I install the game (I use the gog copy to get the registry and then I delete everything and I copy paste from an external harddrive my avlis ready version)

I run it on Win 7 64 bit. One thing I did to help was to find your nwmain.exe file in your neverwinter nights folder, right click on it and go to properties. Under the compatibility tab, I checked the box that says run in compatibility mode and I set the drop down to windows xp service pack 3. I think that seemed to help me though I can't remember what issues I had. Since then though, it runs great

Re: Windows 7 64 bit?
I just got a laptop today that runs Windows 7 64 bit(my pc currently runs Windows 7 32 bit) so hopefully though I will rarely use it for it, the laptop will have no problems with NWN.

I don't really have too many problems with it. There's the occasional crash but that's it.

Re: Windows 7 64 bit?
I have been running Win7 64-bit for over a year without any issues, just remember to tweak the ini files for multi-core processors. I just have my desktop shortcut set to run as Administrator, no need to run in compatibility mode for me.

Re: Windows 7 64 bit?
I run Win 7 64 bit and frequently have NWN crash out on me as it's starting up. I just keep trying and it works eventually. Funny thing is, once I've got it to work once, it seems then to continue to work no matter how many times I open and close NWN, up until I next reboot.
When I do get in though, NWN has been rock solid, no bombing back to desktop at all so far.

Try hitting alt-tab when you hit the first screen. Had that same problem on Windows Xp a lot, and that always made sure it didn't crash.Merago Jert wrote:I run Win 7 64 bit and frequently have NWN crash out on me as it's starting up. Re: Windows 7 64 bit?
For me starting nwmain.exe directly without using the launcher did the trick for that problem.asugden wrote:Try hitting alt-tab when you hit the first screen. Re: Windows 7 64 bit?
When you say "crash out"...
do you mean that it exits, or do you mean that you can't click on the buttons to choose "multiplayer" etc.?

Re: Windows 7 64 bit?
I have the problem manuel described on my notebook running W7 x64. Driver issues, I think, but sometimes when it crashes I have to reboot the whole system because it doesn't crash all the way.

Re: Windows 7 64 bit?
The only problem I have had running Windows 7 64 bit is with ASK. That just seems to bomb out a random points. NWN itself has been fine though.

Re: Windows 7 64 bit?
In my experiance, it runs no differently to when I was using XP SP3 32bit. Crashes occasionally, sometimes I have issues on start up and it will always crash at the character select screen if i log out of a server to log into a different one.
Personally I much prefder Win7 to XP or Vista, but thats a story for another time...

Re: Windows 7 64 bit?
I've had 2 Laptops now with NWN and Windows 7, and no serious issues on either. I did tweak the Core settings on the Intel machine and do run from a shortcut directly to the nwnmain.exe, but otherwise no issues at all.

Re: Windows 7 64 bit?
Seems I have one minor issue and I can't tell if it's because of the integrated audio or W7 64 bit but NWN on the laptop doesn't want to acknowledge I have any sound capability whatsoever so if I ever have to play it there it will be a silent world. Unfortunately any standard trick I know doesn't work and if there was a solution it vanished with Bioware killing their old support forums.

Re: Windows 7 64 bit?
I think there is a compatibility mode for sound which might help you.
Find the nwconfig.exe file in the NWN main folder and check the settings there.
