New Neverwinternights MMO Website Opened
http://www.playneverwinter.com/
From first Impressions, its a sad, sad, day. From reading the site:
* Based on D&D 4.0 ruleset
* Is entirely based online, like W.o.W., EVE, and other MMO's
* Tool-set for "Custom Content" is only available while logged into the game.
* Custom content created by players is only accessible while online in the main game, but anyone is able to access and use it. Will have a Player Driven content rating system.
But it does look pretty, from the screenshots, kind of a NWN2 feel to it, imo.

Very pretty, blatantly going to be Pay-to-Play though

Sure looks pretty... but I can already play NWN online... *continues search for Saturday babysitters*
Now that a couple of years have gone by, can any of you D&D 4.0 players who have played the previous rulesets give an opinion on whether 4.0 still "feels like D&D"? That would be my biggest concern for something like this...

1. It is DnD 4.0
2. It will be Pay to Play (almost certainly)
3. Online only
Avlis is far better

And, unless they've changed it, you're limited to a group size of 5 people.

Not sure about the first one as I admit I don't know v4.0. However, the others are true.SaraEF wrote:1, A vastly superior system for video games and anyone who doesn't want to spend 3 hours running a combatNighthawk4 wrote:1. It is DnD 4.0![]()

I still say that the best D&D edition were 3.0-3.5. D&D 4.0 feels made to cater powergamers. But mybe that is just me(shrugs).I have the rule books for both 3.0-3.5 and 4.0 and I still like the earlier edition.Anyways, just my 2 cents worth.

Heh... I suspect that nobody wanted to get into a "Hasbro killed D&D" discussion again. Probably my bad for bringing it up, but I was curious since no-one I know that plays 4 played any earlier versions, and no-one I know who played earlier versions plays 4, except perhaps here.Cameron Klym wrote:Sorry to have killed the conversation here.Did I say something wrong? *sniff sniff* maybe I need a shower? Mostly I was curious as to whether the "feel" of the game, whatever that nebulous quality is that makes it "feel" like D&D, was still present with 4, rather than a critique of the mechanics or suitability for computers vs. PnP.

Re: New Neverwinternights MMO Website Opened
personally nothing I have ever played on ANY computer feels like PnP, some DMs can almost get you there. But just the simple action of rolling dice and landing a successful hit in combat or a save, or any other of thing is more fun than watching the computer roll the dice a hundred times in a few seconds.NayalaGelbert wrote:

Re: New Neverwinternights MMO Website Opened
I thought 4.0 was ok, and it is great that it's brought a new generation into pnp, but once I tried out Pathfinder, I switched over to that and haven't looked back. I would love to see a computer game based on that, however I think 4.0 does lend itself pretty well to a computer or online game since it kind of feels like one already.
I think playing online using a VTT such as MapTools or Fantasy Grounds can be a blast, but even that can't replace sitting down at a table with some friends for an afternoon or evening.

VTTs make it so much easier to keep track of everything that even if I sat at a table, I would use maptool with a projector. I run and Love Pathfinder, but it has lots and lots of situational modifiers and variables from feats and class abilities. Many apply only in certain situations. Once you get all your macros in place on Maptool, you actually have to remember very few of them, the tool never forgets the modifiers and does all the math, I doubt, I will ever go back to a completely computer-less game unless I run first or second addition or a non D&D RPG.
"Lets see my ranger attacks with his two long swords. The primary hand is a BAB of 6, + 3 for strength, -4 duel wielding light weapons, the bard's song gives me +2, and I am flanking for +2 for a total of +9 to hit. My second attack with my primary hand long sword is 5 less for a +5 to hit " This is one of the more simple examples, my macro's would calculate everything but the flank, so much less to keep track of and much more accurate.

Re: New Neverwinternights MMO Website Opened
Right, sorry to have missed the point...but in my opinion D&D 4.0 does not feel like D&D to me and my gaming buddies.Like has already been said, feels more like a Pc or Game Console game...or WoW is an apt discription in a way.I do notknow anyone that actually likes it.But i am guessing that the younger gaming gerations may like it even though my kids and thier friends do not like it.So for what its worth, thats my take on it.
