Question about Avlis XP System

Post by Cindare » Sun Nov 29, 2009 8:16 pm

Hey folks! I've been long gone and came back recently to this strange new XP system. I'm not sure if this is a dead horse (I don't think it is) but I figured I'd pose a couple questions anyhow. :)

Suppose I've multiclassed to the point where I'm experiencing the 20% XP penalty. Obviously, my XP gains on killing monsters is reduced by that amount. I understand that the XP cap is bumped up on a weekly basis. Should I have a multiclassing penalty, will my XP cap be reduced as well? Furthermore, if I have a multiclassing penalty, will non-monster-killing sources of XP such as crafting and scripted quests also have a penalty? I know that DM cookies don't get a penalty, nor do they seem to count toward the periodic XP cap.

Any insight into this is appreciated. Thanks! :umarmen:

Unfortunately xp penalty does count for quests, which doesn't make sense, and I don't think it should.

Oh and dotn get me wrong, i feel for you Isadora, and everyoen else who gets a penalty, I get one myself! but think of the extra good stuff you get instead of leveling quicker!

Majority of "Uber best builds" are all multiclass and the extra feats / benifits are the reason, plus remember it was hard coded by bioware for the OC (originial campaign not the orange county, though maybe it does mean Orange County... Cali is to blame for our XP penalty? ) so there isn't much can be doen to get around it without extra work and stuff.

Bottem line, you can never please everyone with an XP system, it takes balls to even try and make one.

A ranger/rogue went 'venturin', one dark and windy day...
Upon a ridge he rested as he went along his way...
When all at once a mighty herd of horselich he saw...
Ploughing through the ragged sky... And up a cloudy draw...

Yippee yi yoooooo....
Yippee yi yaaaaayyy...

Horseliches.. in... the skyyyyy...

Between it and the other replies, I think I have one left. In one of those threads Nob stated his intention to revisit the merit of the multiclassing penalty also applying to the periodic XP cap (characterized as a "double jeopardy" penalty). What came of this?

Well..you can consider getting rid of the penalty by balancing your classes (eg. keeping them within a lvl from each other) or by playing a race that doesn't have both professions as non-preferred, that way no need to worry about the penalty...sure you won't be able to min/max as well, but hey if you want it all..........either be patient or....

The cap is now subtracted based on how your xp changes between one kill and another, so there's no longer a double penalty for a multiclass penalty.
