can you run it?

Post by KinX » Tue Apr 15, 2008 6:04 am

just found this handy little website and I thought I'd share it with everyone in case you didn't already know about it:

http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/

Bear in mind, it has to download a component to your system so it can check your reqs that your browser probably won't like.

My work pc failed miserably for NWN2

Right on, that is a nifty site. My video card is a Geforce 7900GS, min is 6800, recommended (for Crysis) is an 8800. That's what slaughtered my score the most.

Its seems that just having windows xp lowers your score.

Some hot recommended requirements for the video card on that Crysis game. I currently have a Nvidia Geforce 8600 GT 512 RAM card.

German tech site PC Games Hardware built a computer stocked with a 1200W power supply, three GeForce 8800 Ultra cards in SLI, and a Core 2 Extreme CPU running at 3.00 GHz. One hell of a machine, but could it max Crysis? In a manner of speaking, yes, but not at the kind of frame rates you’d expect.

Running at a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels at very high settings with Direct X 10 enabled, this machine pulled off an average of 37.9 FPS. Sure, it’s a decent frame rate, but for almost $1800 in computer hardware the results are somewhat disappointing.

it's games like Crysis and to a lesser extent NWN2 that slowly turned me to console gaming. I used to be a hardcore PC-gamer, but I just couldn't be stuffed trying to keep up with the hardware specs. That and the cost associated with constant upgrading.

They make their crazy beautiful game, and if you can't run it, it's your fault for not being able to afford thousands of dollars in hardware upgrades. Seriously, are they trying to push gamers towards consoles?

I have an 8800 768m. I wonder if I could hit recommended on Crysis (although I have no idea what that game is).

My home PC failed for NWN2. The video card is the culprit which seems to be a very common thing. I believe I have a nividia 5800 series if I remember correctly. That is a great website for seeing what the real weekness in your PC is for gaming. Excellent thread! :)

Generally with gaming its all in the card ...I never skimp on that piece of kit otherwise you only regret it. Always try and go for the GTX version of the card and you avoid stripped down inferior version, you will get your moneys worth , but only over time as unfortunately they are never cheap and thats why I always consider consoles too, but you just get limited by the games you can play on them ...IE no AVLIS! :D

so mi ran that thingy on my new laptop against NWN2, and it told me my video card failed. thing was, it listed all the video card tests, and said it had passed them all, but since it's a Dell vid card (came in the laptop), and not a Nvidia, or whatever, it says it failed. really? anyone else have that happen? i'll be really sad if i can't play NWN2 just because the card isn't the right brand.

<bumps this thread>

so i went to the website for NWN2 and looked at the system requirements, and saw a list of "supported video cards," which obviously my 128 MB Dell video card (came in the new laptop) isn't on that list. does that mean I CAN'T play NWN2 on my laptop, even though it meets or exceeds all the minimum system requirements?

anyone know?

First person shooter with crazy physic's and nutty graffic's. no other game has let me run up to an enemy grab him by the throat, then hold him by the throat long enough to toss his carcasss at a bunch of his buddies...... the game's a great singles player game but online play left me with a should have bought unreal tourney 3..which i went and did...lol

it may... trick is if it's below minimum to turn every grafic, shadow and animation to it's lowest setting.. I had a my bro's old comp with a 9200 ati 128 card running it..very poorly but it was playable.. Also if you bought a dell how long ago? Some dell's you can upgrade the vid card ( in the lap top) maybe you'll luck out?

Not to diss what your saying but all the newest games incorporate everything cpu speed, hard drive speed, sound card capability, ram latency speed and quantity.. so if you run out and buy a gtx thinking it'll let you play any game, but the rest of your system sucks , your going to be throwing coin away..GTX is just a factory overclocked version of the series...same chipset.. maybe with a better heat sink and fan, but don't be fooled, your buying the same card for alot more coinage just at a higher clocked speed. I cheep out on vid cards all the time, then upgrad the heat sink, then over clock them ( depending on who asks to build the system). 9 times ot of ten i save the person 50 - 100 bucks.. with a better result.. just be extreemly carefull with removing the factory heat sinks they aren't fun to pull...
The reason why consoles are kicking our PC's asses with visuall quality right now is the ageia physic's engine.. it's built into the Xb 360 and the playstation 3 and makes amazing explosions/ distructability of schtuff in the games.. Not many incorperate it for PC games.. and it's glitchy as hell right now with the card being a sperate entity in your machine... they were just sold to BFG so expect a new series of vid card soon with them built into them..

Aegia is now owned by Nvidia and the PhysX library, their true magic, is being ported to Nvidia's CUDA API for running physics on a GPU core. If the game you play is light on the physics, you can use all cores for the graphics. Games that require hardware assist, you dedicate one for physics. Physics-only hardware is pretty much going to be a dead-end.
