Avlis policy on: Shared CDKeys

Post by choraldances » Fri Aug 27, 2004 7:57 pm

Avlis is a cool place, we all know that. It is not uncommon that family members play on the same CD and/or Gamespy account in Avlis.

However, there has been a number of cases where ONE of the family member was banned for specific reason, and thus, making it unplayable for the rule-abiding family member.

The banning policy is such that we will ban any CD key and/or Gamespy account that is associated with the said player. That means, if your family member is playing on the same CD and/or Gamespy account, you also risk being banned from Avlis if that your brother/sister/father/mother also plays on the same CD and/or Gamespy account.

This is done because it is next to impossible to distinguish whether or not it is true that said banned player truly has a sibling/parent/child who plays on the same CD and/or Gamespy account.

Thus, in order to protect yourself if you truly do have a family member who does play in Avlis, play on seperate CD's and/or Gamespy account and DON'T SHARE! Simple as that.

Thanks for being understanding.

It should also be clear that you do not have to be using the same cd, or gamespy account as someone who has been punnished.

If you play using your own cd but allow another person to log in to thier account using your system, you could also be considered to be sharing the cd key.

Once a player has logged in using your pc, your cd key will be assosiated with that player, even if they only did it once for five mins and you never see them again as long as you live.

Eg. you meet up with another online player who visits your home, wants to show you thier charicter sheet, equipment, etc

This person could then go home, commit an online offence (using their own cd and account details) and you would also suffer thier fate.

Clarification:

Its not against the rules to share computers or cdkeys.
BUT...
When someone breaks a rule and is punished (up to and including a ban) then all CDKeys associated with that player, and any other player names associated with those CDkeys, are included in the punishment. We do this because when there are multiple player names and multiple CDKeys we cant tell if they are seperate people or one person with many playernames and either multiple copies of the game, a list of CDKeys (hacked, listed or keygen) or multiple players who for some reason have shared computers (or shared disks).

Bottom line:
If you share CDKeys with another person(s) understand that if that other person(s) breaks the rules you will be punished along with them, or if you break the rules the other person(s) will be punished along with you.

Just a bump for this post.

If you share cdkeys and someone you shared with gets looked up, the connection will be found.

We are resonable people, if you logged in one time from someone elses PC at a meet and theDB shows only one, we will most likely cut you some slack.

If you hang out with a friend and log in several times on their PC and they get in trouble, we may cut you some slack if there are less than 10 occurances. (No promises here)

If you have more than 10 connections to another player in the DB and they get in trouble, prepair to share their punishment and/or Banning.
