Avlis policy on: Player generated Avlis content

Lately, people who are fans of Avlis have been getting very excited about making things for us and helping us out. This is very good, but it is presenting some new questions and possible problems.

Example:
Players making maps for Avlis.

The question was asked, "What kind of cut player A would get for the artwork contributed to Avlis" Answer is none. The only way we would use any of player generated stuff is if they donated it to Avlis completely. I like to keep it this way. If anyone asks, it will not be our policy to give cuts to anyone for artwork or other Avlis contribution. We will of course heavily reference the person for their deeds, but that's as far as it goes.

TWO people came to me separately, and asked if they could open up their own paysites selling Avlis maps. This is also a NO. They do not own Avlis. I do. They are welcome to donate Avlis content, but as soon as they do that, it belongs to me. That is the policy.

We need to keep a definite line on what belongs to Avlis (i.e. me, and in some cases the team members) and what belongs to the players. Players can create Avlis maps and such only if they are to be for personal use or used within the community. But, I will not stand for any of our players making money off of selling Avlis stuff.

Websites

Websites are a case worth mentioning. Players may make websites for the Avlis community featuring information they have found out about Avlis, as well as their own artwork if any. However, these sites are only for personal use. You cannot use them to sell ANYTHING with an Avlis logo, name, picture, or any kind of other Avlis content on it.

The Avlis Team also has no problem with putting a link to your fan site on our homepage. We like when our fans make pages. However, a linked page does not constitute an "Official" Avlis web page in any way shape or form. The only official Avlis information is found on the official Avlis website at http://www.avlis.org. No other sites are condoned as official. They are acknowledged as fan sites and appreciated, but the final say for content is here on this site.

If your webpage has its content moved to avlis.org and made official, then it is official. But that will only happen if you donate the content and completely relinquish ownership of it to Avlis.

Wow, I never thought I would have to post this stuff, and I'm kinda amazed that our community is big enough to actually produce people who are gung-ho enough to want to do this for us. Good work, and thanks for playing.

Perhaps one way they could benefit would be if these maps could be sold in game - then their characters could charge other characters for them, and their hard work would be rewarded.

Just a thought.

That would be ok, since the money being exchanged is not real.
