Multiple computers, copies of NWN and Avlis
It seems that it needs to be stated clearly so here we go.
It is forbidden to use multiple computers with multiple copies of NWN (or any other method that results in the same effect) and multiple playernames to simultaneously play multiple characters on Avlis.
Doing so is considered cheating and persons caught doing so will be subject to Vault Jail and/or Banning.

I ain't as good as I once was, But I'm as good once as I ever was...
4evar!

Have a question on this topic, since it bears directly on me.. I have multiple computers each with a serperate copy of NWN (both have unique cdkeys), two seperate gamespy id's. One computer i play on with my characters, the other my wife uses on rare occasion to play also. We both submitted applications under our respective names. HOw do you distinguish between a single user using multiple accounts simultaneously and a sitatuation like mine where you'll see two instances of the same ip concurently, but are actually from two different users?

We are not concerned with two separate Players logging in from the same location - assuming you both have applied and obtained the passwords and have separate CD keys.
We are only concerned with One Player using two computers in order to mule items between their own characters or otherwise cheat by literally being in two places at the same time.
Using two different Gamespy IDs for this purpose is still cheating - if both are the same Player and on at the same time.
Also, please remember that your character cannot know one another - even if some are created with a different Gamespy ID.
Any of the above with ONE Player is bad, with TWO Players is acceptable.

Life is never as bad as you think it is, although that doesn't help at the time.

IMO it would have been better off as a clarification of the trans-character muling and knowing prohibitions.Nighthawk4 wrote:We are only concerned with One Player using two computers in order to mule items between their own characters or otherwise cheat by literally being in two places at the same time.
If the quote above was the intent, then the rule was either badly worded or ill conceived. The ruling reads quite a bit more broadly than the above. That can lead to serious unintended consequences. I expect now you'll need to perform a significant amount of analysis work to make sure that you're not making a false accusation. From hard personal experience that type of analysis is the fast track to staff burnout.
I urge you to be economical and precise with your rulings. Don't make a rule where a clarification or policy will suffice. Be clear about what you mean. More rules means more paranoia for the 99.99% of our players which are honest.

Not team-side, as you can tell from my forum title, but I would like to chime in that once you know what to look for, it's not really that hard to tell. On a more PG server than Avlis, where such things were allowed, I used to game with a couple people who had their other character, clerics in both cases, follow them around for buffing, ressing etc. .. the funny thing is that some people actually didn't realize what was going on and would just think "gee that cleric really has no personality", heh. I guess they never caught on that you would never see the two characters of the same person performing any complex movements simultaneously.Korennya wrote:HOw do you distinguish between a single user using multiple accounts simultaneously and a sitatuation like mine where you'll see two instances of the same ip concurently, but are actually from two different users?
I don't know what's so complicated or unclear about the ruling, though. Don't be online with two characters at once. Seems pretty simple to me. *shrugs*

If you Think the Ruling Makes sense, Then you better go back and read it again.
I've played with friends of mine here in my basement, Who where excepted into the Avlis world. both of us use the same Ip to get online.
I've also in the past, have played 2 characters at the same time. One in Kuras and the other in Mikona, and Nobody can tell that I was doing it. Because they where on different servers.
Now I'm no longer allowed to do the 2nd idea. But It's ok to do the first.
I understand the need to stop cheats. But Holy cross eyed cows batman. That rule needs to be ammended.
Something like,
It is Forbidden to use multiple computers with multiple copies of NWN on the same computer and same server/area.
It is considered cheating if two characters meet and one shows no sign of personality or trade items with the intent of cheating or use there powers to buff the other.
If you show signs of cheating in this manor you will be subject to Vault Jail and/or Banning.
Now if your like me and have two keyboards in your lap, To keep up with conversations from two different characters. You might still be able to play. I'm Multi talented that way. Being a former DM from another site.
Just for DEv and Dm knowleadge, I don't cheat! My characters are always on different Servers to prevent that. So if your banning Multi character play using IP addresses. Then It's safe to say I'll be banned soon. For I see no reason to stop multi characters on different servers. If they ever get pulled into the Same Dmed adventure, (which has never happened) I would treat them as two people that avoid each other through personality conflict))

Both are perfectly clear (at least to me) and I certainly understand the problems addressed by the second sentence. I have no idea why someone who wants to play one character in Mikona and another in Kuras is causing a problem, but oh well. The Avlis team takes the time to make our play possible. If we don't like their rules, either because of their direct effect or our paranoia, we should put on our walking shoes. I don't see how whining about them helps anyone.
Make love and war. Why miss out?

Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Maybe if others make a good point, that the team doesn't agree with you should consider it longer then 10 minutes,
If you blasted me because i'm the one last straw that broke the Camels back then. You should be asking why are we getting flack from the players over this.
If you blasted me because you make the rules and I don't change my mind or the teams when we come to a disicion.
Then go frag yourself up a tree. I don't need your shit or your attitude.
I just thought i would point out something the team may have over looked.
But as i stated at the top of this post. Absoulte Power baby!!!
You got you keep using it.
Just be nicer about it next time. I really don't need your oversized (letters) mouthed to me.

This is why rules postings should be locked, with the only edits/additions being done by DMs/Staff, and leaving the "discussion" to GD, or Rants.Triwise wrote:Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Guys - enough please.
Alex said it, I said it, Spool32 said it even more clearly.
No more rants please.
1. You only use ONE Computer at any one time.
2. You only login with one Player Character at any one time
3. Your own Player Characters can never know each other.
4. They can never meet each other.
Clear enough?
