2 Newb questions
Hi All:
I began in Le'Or. I've run many errands, talk to just about everyone, and fought a lot of rats. I'm level two now, but I don't think I could fight the spiders. So, I was thinking about going to another area (such as Mikona). I gather from the forums that that is permitted, but that you must wait an hour. I want to make sure that I can do that, and, also, what kind of story can I give, if anyone asks, for how I got there? How would one travel to these different areas, especially if you're weak?
Second, I read the other day somewhere that there may be something that I have to do in game to make sure that I could hear DM's if they talk to me. Is that right? What do I have to do? (I can't seem to find that post again.)
Thanks!

You can login to a different server, after waiting one hour from logging out of the previous one. Of course, you can also choose a different server next day.
The theory is that several days have passed in the game since you logged out. During that time, your character walked overland or took the boat - just you were not there at the time.
The reason for the one hour delay is to prevent people from jumping from one place to another instantly - which is fine for Captain (Beam me up, Scotty) Kirk, but is not in character here on Avlis.
To make sure you see DM messages, point at the top of the right-hand dialogue window at the bottom of the screen, right-click on this and select 'Show DM messages' from the radial menu. I think it is the option on the SE position on the menu. This is a toggle, so if you use it twice, it will be off again. By default, it is off.
Welcome to Avlis

Life is never as bad as you think it is, although that doesn't help at the time.

To make it a bit more clear. If for example you are now in LeOr and you decide to call it a day and tomorrow you login to Mikona, you will NOT get the 1 hour penalty. This only applies when you change servers instantly by logging off from one and on to the next, without using the transitions.

Afaik, I've never touched the DM message thing, but I checked it today and it was on - by which I mean it read something like "DM Channel Enabled", and was the same as the other channels (ie: they all said X Channel Enabled") which are definitely on (because I get Tells,Combat Info, etc)

It is on for the Single Player game but off for the Multiplayer.
Of course, you don't often find a DM on the Single Player game
This applies to the Right-Hand screen - you add it to this one as there is less traffic on this one - so you are less likely to miss messages from the DMs.[/i]

No .. they couldnt .. but they could easy get some company to take them to Elysia and get the boat...much more plausible. Theres a bit of a rough area called the warzone between Le'Or and Mikona too. But then, lvl isnt really IC, if your character is an old hand at the forest andd used to hiding through warzones, and trekking of miles across desert, then yeh fine, no reason you cant say you walked.szabot wrote:Thanks!
So, it's perfectly IC to say that I walked from a place like Le'Or to Mikona? (Could a weak 1st lvl character really manage that? And alone?)
Looking forward to exploring a new area!
I never jump servers... it just doesn't feel right to "skip" the areas... and I'm not saying you can't do it... of course you can, it is allowed (unfortunately).
PS. I actually never turn rightscreen DM messages on... I detect them better from the left one... I hardly ever even watch the right one...
