Post by szabot » Mon Jan 02, 2006 7:16 pm

Does Avlis have a moon? Multiple moons? What does it (or they) look like? What is it (or are they) called?

cheers.

(the actual quote from Orleron)
Orleron wrote:Standard planar cosmology with great wheel, yes.

One earth-like sun. One moon.

Clerics will know more about religion and philosophy and history. Wizards and sorcerers will know more about the planes and general magic theory. Bards will know most of the stuff posted in the information forum... just pick what your character would be most likely to know.

The average commoner lives under semi-feudal conditions with an apprentice system of learning in most cases. Some go to academies of magic or clerical learning institutions, but not many. You can assume that your adventurer has had some education, unless you are a barbarian or you don't want your character to be educated.

A generally educated person will know the basic creation theory, and the existance of the races, and who most of the gods are. They will also know that magic exists but that's about it, unless they've seen it.

Avlis has one moon, and its name can be discovered by logging into Orl's Spelljammer test server.

I know Avlis has two suns, which was quite a shock when I read it.

The quote from Orleron above says it has one.

And can someone tell us the name of the moon? Presumably the people of Avlis would know it without logging into the spelljamming server (which I can't do for a few more days yet anyway). ;)

It's listed as "Levena" on the list.

The Avlis astronomy has changed a bit from old sources, it used to have two suns and the Negerai trapped in the middle or something like that, and multiple moons, but IIRC a lot of that was retconned away when coming up with NWN Avlis.

The book "Myth of the Shadowlord" reads that there are two suns. The book can be found in-game, so that is what I based this on.

:P

I'm not sure why I expect a name for the moon, rather than it just being called "the moon."

IIRC it was changed when Avlis NWN started as there was no support for two suns in the NWN engine.

OKay, so back to the Original Question...Is there only one moon? Moreover, whart is the current status of the Sun...Suns..?

I have read in that book, too, that there are two suns. Can someone who has absolute authority make up my mind for IC purposes, please.

One sun, one moon named Levena, which does mean Moon in Nanshilae.

If anyone wants to know more about the moons, they really should be asking a Wilsaashan worshipper IG...

Anyways, I would like to see multiple suns!

On a total aside, but in a similar vein, the planet of Avlis is much smaller than Earth, thus the continent of Negaria actually takes up a big chunk of the planet's surface, in a Pangaea like manner. That's not to say there aren't any other continents, Negaria is just the biggest.

Now we're at suns and moons, what about stars and their constellations? Has anything been made about astrology/astronomy on Avlis?

Could be fun to make the Zodiac of Avlis with according star constellations etc. :)
