Gnolls and society

I'm presently in the making of a new charater (a gnoll as you can guess) and I would want to know more about how they're perceived by others and how's their society.

For exemple, do they normally lives in clan/groups in the wild or can we have a big family of them as neighbors(let's say in Mikona)?

By the way, I already know about them being used as slaves in some cities, so there's no need to tell me about that.
