Implementation of sub races

Post by poer » Tue Apr 20, 2004 7:42 pm

Hey All,

I have a few quick question on sub races. I've been browsing the site and read the players manual, however I haven't found an answer yet. I applied and haven't been let into the community yet, so maybe it all becomes clear when you create a character.

At any rate, I was wondering:

Do sub races appear in the game as a sub race (i.e. centars are 1/2 a horse, wemics are 1/2 lion etc?).

When creating a character, the directions state you create a character in a given race and go talk to some stone golem... well, how does this effect things like skill points? I am very interested in creating a half-nymph, however, they get -2 INT. This means I would lose 4 skill points for my first level char... which ones does it remove?

Thanks for all your help... hopefully you'll see me wandering around Avlis soon.

Yes they do. We have dynamic models for all sub races that require one. Dynamic models, meaning that the armor they are wearing shows up in game. I'm not 100% sure if all the dyanimic models have been added in yet, but I'm sure they're all done or nearly so.

So if you play a centuar or wemic, you appear as the torso of a man with the body of a horse or lion.

Hopefully someone else can answer that. Because I have no idea how it works.

Welcome to Avlis. :)

Wemics are dynamic, centaurs aren't yet.

If you get a INT penalty make sure to let the skill points that would remove open when making your pre-race-change character or it will be unplayable. Only not assigned skillpoints can be removed.

Thanks for the info guys!

I am glad I asked otherwise I would have assigned the skill points and wondered what was wrong :).

Anything else I should be aware of when creating a char. that will be turned into another race? I have 2 other friends I talked into joining with me who might also create sub-races (we used to run around as pixies, centars, brownies, minotars, etc in old PnP and will probably continue here :) )

Uhm, yes. Some of the custom races don't have as many head options as the default NWN races, so don't pick any of the more exotic heads. Especially the wemics are limited in choice for heads. There should be some other posts by players that mention how many exactly are available. Do a search yourself.

Also note that not all races that could be created with the system are implemented on Avlis. Only the ones that we felt fit our world's background are active and selectable.

There are three wemic heads, so when you create your half-elf base character you should only pick one of the first three heads in the bioware character creation step.
