This sounds far better as a explanation then that about a god striping them of that ability as if it would have been a spell and decides to do so because he is in mood for it today.
I think you're missing the point. This is a world that has dragons, people who can move hundreds of feet by mere thought, other people who can twiddle their fingers and turn someone inside out... And you're looking for a logical explaination of why a winged person can't fly?

Because the script/plot/DM/god said so, that's why. :P

Who the heck is Keros and why have I never heard of him before? He's not even listed on the deific chart: portal.php?getpage=deific_chart

Ah, I'm putting this here as OOC info-- as Aloro has stated, this is IC"ly only known if your PC finds it out, or is told via DM...
Keros: Tyedu Spirit God of Survival

He started as a small spirit-god in the mountains, and his worship spread over the last few hundred years, until now he is recognized in much of Tyedu. He has probably surpassed the status of spirit-god and become a Demigod, in technical terms. He has no holy days, and he takes life sacrifices of those he considers unworthy to survive. He seems to be associated with the color red at times, though this might not be "official."
Worshipper and clerical alignments are unknown, at least by me, but his priest are called shamans, and seems to have the ability, at high levels, to slay at a glance, those that they deem as "unfit to survive." ;) As Aloro has said, he is a cruel god, and has his own criteria for what is "fit."

Hope that helps a little. DM's feel free to remove this if it's incorrect, or inappropriate.

Folks... let's try to focus a tiny bit here. This isn't General Discussion, nor Random Discussions. This is a thread about Avariel and Drangonari.

Evolution has a hand in making emus and ostriches unable to fly. If its simple atrofication, they SHOULD be able to resume flight once they have built up the necessary muscles again.

Incidentally, how long have the avariel been under ground?

I see at the topic races that you cant play Avariels as a pc..

Will this be possible in the future? and an other question..

I see more people walking with wings nowadays.. Are these just special rewards that they got for doing something IG or is it possible for other people to get this also?

Just wondering 8)

There are three PC's with wings on Avlis, to my knowledge. Just a coincidence that your character happens to hang around with the last. I imagine you could get wings for Elong too.. find some crazy bat-demon-pseudodeity, do him some favor, carve up some humans and offer their entrails for his kids to eat.. and voila. But Team involvement only, as it means hanging the characters bic file.

There's a small technological hurtle we need to over come before being able to make avariel PC's with wings. Right now the AutoBic character generator does not have an option for giving wings and tails to PC's automatically. Until we code a way to give the avariel wings automatically without DM help, we will be waiting on avariel PC's.

The code will be java or NWScript but either way it will have to work its way up our todo list. :)

With the newer autobic all tieflings get tails. And the abyss custom races have wings as well.

...and there is a external client side extension for NWN too that allows making new chars as default with wings and tails. Without to hack the chars or NWN.

I highly recommend that you DO NOT use this tool if you would like to continue to play on Avlis.

I am not saying that i use it, i am saying that there are tools if you dont want/have time to script those things or update your autobic by lending those scripts from abyss that already adds wings to chars.

hmm... we already use the latest autobic, IIRC. Do you remember generally how to give the custom race wings, i.e. how Abyss does it with their races?

A small step by step ballpark idea would go a long way.

Sorry I did not mean to look like I was pointing at you specificly, it was my intent that NO Avlis player use that tool :)

Dear Aloro, or any all-knowing DM:
Could you please help me?

IG, I'm a brand new Avariel, which lends nicely to the storyline of Avariel coming out of hiding -- neither IC nor OOC do I know much about living among others!

But what I MUST know IC, is my own personal history and I cannot seem to find much detaled information on what my history might be -- other than a life of hiding with no other specifics.

Could you please direct me to where I might gather information on myself? I am considering going to Deglos but don't want to be from there and not know anything about it . . .

I am willing to take time to get to know myself, but my searches on Avariel have come up slim.

While I have your ear, do you know who I might contact to change my board name to reflect my IG character, and to ask whether I could make any changes to what people see in the box when they examine me IG?

Thank you for your help.

Hi! I'm not a DM, and certainly not Aloro.. ;)

But I do know a lot about Avariel. The best place to get more information about the Avariel is on the wiki. The specific link for Avariel info is:

http://wiki.avlis.org/Elf%2C_Avariel

As for your board name, just create a new one. For your character description, though, the only way to get that changed is to re-create your character, with a slightly different name (add a space, put the apostrophe in a different location) and change the description there before you continue with the character creation. This isn't something the Team will do. (If you've gone too far along with the character though, this may not be something you're willing to do ).

Any other questions, please feel free to send me a private message (PM).

Welcome to Avlis, hope to see you IG! :D

Hi. Me again.

I've seen lots of different perspectives and personalities among both Drangonari and Avariel PC's -- from outright ignorance of the conflict at all to severe hatred for the other race. There are some on both sides who even despise their own creator and/or race. There are lots in between.

Well it's been hundreds of years since the Drangonari/Avariel/Toostan tragedy. What are the Drangonari up to on Grantir? Still seeking to expand? They obviously know about the Avariel repopulating and must know of the settlement in Visi. Any new "common" information or word of mouth stuff the active and informed Avariel & Drangonari of Avlis should know about?

Nature vs. Nurture: It is perfectly feasible that many of both races are ready to move on and get along. But since the Drangonari were created TO kill Avariel. . . are they genetically wired AT ALL to despise Avariel whether they know of the conflict or not?

I basically wanted also to bump this thread for a few people who I've been talking too.

There is new information on Grantir actually... quite a bit. It's all FOIG though... (I've made some public postings on it).

Drangonari do not have a racial hatred of Avariel by design. This is a cultural bias, much as the Jechrani bias against men or the Kurathene hatred of Malekites. Any Drangonari who like the Avariel are playing against type... there are about as many Drangonari who like Avariel as there are smart Ogres or Elf Paladins.

From the wiki on Drangonari:
Relations

Drangonari Elves have an inborn hatred for the Avariel Elves. Also, they dislike Shaahesk, because their city Grantir is almost constantly under attack by Shaahesk armies.
I am pretty sure it was written elsewhere that individual drangonari could overcome this aversion to Avariel to some extent, but I'm not finding the reference atm.

The rest of the information you asked for-- well, hope the Team has some answers for you! :)

-Tyger-

(PS, updated the Avariel link in the last post.... )

Edit: Doh! Guess the wiki needs updating, Spool32.....

er, crap this might be one of my rare mistakes in the world info. ;)

I'd take the Wiki over me in this case. It's canon, I've apparently misremembered.
