State of the Avlis Address 2008

It's been a good year. Actually, it's been a good run, but more on that later. The build team continues to squash bugs and add new content, pushing the limits of what the engine was capable of following its 2002 release. The DM team continues to cook up engaging, clever, and sometimes downright twisted plots. New generations of players are arriving, taking up the slack of old players as they move on. All in all, between Teamies and players, we've got a good thing going on.

It's thus with a heavy heart that I make this State of the Avlis address.

As you know, the Avlis2 Team has been working away tirelessly to get the Crosstreams setting up and running. The plan has been, and always will be, to run both worlds simultaneously as long as possible. As it turns out, the NWN2 engine requires far more resources than initially expected. The following changes will be made over the period of exactly four weeks, no less:

  • • Week 1: Mikona, Elysia, and Wilderness will be taken off-line to be reconfigured for Obsidian's NWN2 engine.

    • Week 2: The database will be taken offline. During this time, it may be possible to repeat quests that are intend to be once-per-player only. Do not abuse this; it is considered an exploit and you will be banned. Ferrell and Visimontium will be taken offline.

    • Week 3: The code base will be updated for Avlis2 compatibility pending its transfer to the Crosstreams Team. During this time, certain scripts may not function properly. Do not report these as bugs; this is normal.

    • Week 4: Remaining servers taken offline to reconfigure for Avlis2.

For what it's worth, Avlis, we've had a great run. The southern continent has really come alive thanks to the years of great dedication from the players and staff alike. I'm just as sorry as anyone else to see it go, but progress is nigh. Please try to get the most out of the final four weeks (I know I will), and thanks for playing!

For the Avlis Team,

- Aeveras
