FOIG, Inc. and the Avlis Team announces that Avlis' servers will use Avlis' Alpha Server instead of Bioware's Master Server for operational authentication.



The decision to implement Alpha was not made lightly. We require a secure and reliable authentication service to protect our playerbase against account hijacking. It is the opinion of our technical staff that in-game authentication methods are highly vulnerable to compromise or depend on information too easily spoofed. When and if Bioware's Master Server is reinstated we will use it to verify multiplayer id's prior to registration with Alpha.



Alpha Server is a replacement for Bioware's Master Server. The heart of the code was developed in early 2010 when a Master Server outage took us offline for several days. During the two weeks leading up to that outage the Master Server would frequently become unresponsive. The issue was corrected and we were given information that convinced us the Master Server would be around for the long haul.



Due to the extended outage that started on June 29, 2011 and the lack of any sort of community outreach beyond a premature announcement, we no longer believe that Bioware or EA is committed to reliably operating the Master Server service. Avlis' Alpha Server has been in operation since July 1st and has met all of our expectations.
