Excluding Avlis and NWN, what is the best PC based, D&D style roleplaying game/series ever made?

Torment. Hands-down. If you don't vote for it, you haven't played it.

EDIT: Wait a minute... Manuel how could you!

Thief is hardly an RPG (then again, neither is Diablo...)

And Morrowind is actually The Elder Scrolls series.

voted Ultima... though ULtima online was a mess and boring as all hell.. the first 7 or 8 single player style where pretty damn cool.. Ultima III was my favorite...

oh and I would like to nominate Wizards Crown for a runner up (anybody REM that game?)

oh wait Bards Tale was cool TOO!!

and then there was Zork ....rock'n!!

ahh and Hack which became Nethack.. very neat!

and to start it all off I played a game on and Eagle PC called Nemisis.. (even had a crafting system that was pretty cool)

Thief's not really rpg, even if it's platinum quality. Morrowind is great, but not really D&D.. Guess I'll have to go for Torment. Honorable mention to Ultima Underworld for best dungeon crawl ever.

So hard to choose, Torment, ah the role playing there. The weeks I lost to that games with Nameless... Icewind Dale, improved sound and graphics, spells, classes etc than BG, but in the end had to go for the one that kicked it all of for Bioware.

BG. The one that got me and others hooked on it. Still played it 2 years later as it was still so much fun. Was it just me or did others do the custom sounds and portraits? Yes, I ripped the sounds out of BG2, IWD and Planescape for it. Even did a Father Fed version...

Just a shame NWN isn't there...

Does anyone remember Eternal Dagger on the C64, that was a great game, not much on graphics, but the game play was good.

While generally every Final Fantasy past the first one isn't DnD style the first Final Fantasy borrowed so much from DnD that its a surprise they never got a lawsuit. Though I have never seen a thing at all in Thief that would make it DnD related unless they came up with the idea for the game from a DnD campaign or something.

As I remember flueretty, you ripped sounds and portraits from hercules and xena, ALL the factions from torment and even the transcendant one and im pretty sure you attempted buffy as well. I was only shocked you didn't produce a luke skywalker sound set.

I have to vote BG, as that is probably the reason I play on Avlis now. Aside from NWN BG2 was my all time fav though. Playin all the different classes for the first time was great, and the quests were non linear too.

I personally thing the elder scrolls series was the bomb so i suppose that would mean voting for morrowin which i don't mind at all :D . But can anyone remember the second elder scrolls? daggerfall, that game was awesome! it was fricken huge and awesome gameplay and an excellent rpg game. I'm sure if we looked back now and played it, it wouldn't be the best graphics game, but if you put that aside, it is one of the best gameplay games i have always thought. Morrowind is awesome too, but man daggerfall was sweet heh.

I dont think those are all really "D & D style" at all, but they are all RPGs if that's what you mean. I will have to say Final Fantasy.

I'm just glad no one voted for or mentioned EQ or AC yet - I just had lunch and would hate to puke on my keyboard.

i like the old school Tunnels of Doom.

If you don't know that game, you never played D&D from a cassette.

Oh, and Bard's Tale and Rogue get props as well.

I haven't played Torment but from what i hear i want to. That means for me it was a toss up between baldur's gate series and the elder scrolls. Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 were good but throne of bhaal made it complete, exellent storyline one of the best i've ever played. BG2 +ToB is one of my fav games ever. But then again so was daggerfall, and even though its near 10 years old or so i still play it, that's how good it is, because it was totally non-linear, you could do pretty much anything you wanted in it for a game that was cool. Morrowind stripped a lot of the great things about daggerfall so that brings down the elder scrolls series, but then again the dark alliance games bring down the quality of the baldur's gate series if that is included. Eh, i just assumed they weren't and voted for baldur's gate, but the elder scrolls deserve just as much credit.. especially daggerfall.

Ack, I didn't see Torment on the list until after I had voted for BG2. Oh well, they're both great games. :D

Yea torment did rock I loved Baldurs gate as well. I think torment could be a little weird for the old school D&D players, but I loved it.
