New Server Attempt II (important interworld info!)

Post by Belasco » Sun Apr 05, 2009 2:29 am

The New Server, fondly known as THE BEAST, is now live! The IP is 96.57.173.162 all ports and passwords remain the same.

Yeeeeee Haaaaaaawwww!!

FOR 'PLANE WALKERS'

The Avlissian portion of the inter-CoPap world portals is temporarily down!

The software that is require to hook all of CoPap together is not fully functional on the new servers. It was decided to launch the new server as is and fix it while live rather than postpone it even longer. The world leaders and senior staff of CoPap have agreed to a temporary pseudo-fix. In a case by case basis we will manually move your character between worlds. Please note this takes extra work and not every request will be accepted. If you need your PC moved between worlds please contact:

Darkfire
Arkon
Themicles

They have graciously volunteered to oversee this temporary fix while we try to get the portal system working again as quickly as possible.

Thanks for your patience!

I've started taking servers down in preparation to start the backups, if everybody can please log out, that would be grand.

Things are progressing. At worst, A1 should be back up ~2pm Eastern (6pm GMT)

I log in through gamespy. Does the change of IP effect that or will gamespy just sorta take care of it?

I mean when the new servers go live i'll still see "avlis" servers and i'll be able to click on them right?
Bad poetry?

Correct, the IP change is mainly going to potentially affect those who direct connect (until the Domain name catches up with the new IP). Those who log in through Gamespy, if you see Avlis showing, you should be able to log in.
Life is what you make of it... So remember, if it sucks, it's your own damn fault!!! Stop whining and deal with it.

Looks like all the pieces are in place. Doing some final checks to make sure.

I use ASK to log onto avlis and it uses domain avlis.blackdagger.net to connect. Does that change automatically through dns or does I have to switch to the IP numbers?

Unless the DNS has been updated already, it would be best to use IP unless you don't feel like re-changing them. Or, you could just make a 2nd temporary set using IP address, so when the DNS is directed properly, you don't have to redo anything.

Also, feel free to try ASK with the avlis.blackdagger.net and see if it works. If it does, what I just said above is entirely wrong and you can use ASK. :P

From the previous thread about this:
spool32 wrote:...
You MUST change your shortcuts, ASK links, Serverwatch icons, or other methods of connecting, to the new IP Address:

96.57.173.162

Passwords and port numbers will stay the same. Data transfer will take several hours to complete, so please be patient.
DNS addresses will take a day or so to be reflected worldwide, so please use the IP Address to connect.

It should all work soon 8-)

Alternately, if you don't want to change 8 different shortcuts, you can just put an entry into your HOSTS file:

1. Browse to C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc
2. Edit the HOSTS file with notepad
3. Put in the following entry on a blank line: 96.57.173.162 avlis.blackdagger.net
4. Save

This works on all versions of windows AFAIK (though Vista may be a bitch about permissions, in which case you'd have to run notepad as an Administrator and browse to the file).

If the IP address ever changes you'd either need to remove the line to let DNS do the deal, or update it with the new IP address.

For bic transfers:

Please PM:

Darkfire
Themicles
Arkonswrath

(or all 3 with a batch PM, even listed them 1 line each above so it's easy to copy/paste) with your information, in this format:

Request #: 1
Character name: Bob Example
Gamespy: BobsLogon
Present World: Ysgard
Target World: Avlis

Code: Select all

Request #:
Character name:
Gamespy:
Present World:
Target World:

Note: We do not transfer .bics from Avlis to Arkaz or Arkaz to Avlis. We'll send you a notification of when your character .bic has been transferred to the target World's vault. I can't give you an accurate estimation of how long it will take unfortunately, but once a few things get setup things should be moving a lot quicker and you can expect the transfers to be done in a reasonable time. I'll let you know as soon as possible. If you have multiple requests, please make sure each character is done with the above format.

Really sorry for the inconvenience.

If I may ask, can we get a note here when the dns catches up. I'll do the IP deal for now, but I'd like to be able to reedit my code once it gets back to normal. Thank you!
