Definitive List of Dungeons?

PostAuthor: spool32 » Fri Jun 12, 2009 7:26 pm

So, the Too Big thread got me thinking... not even the Team has a complete list of all the "dungeons" on all the mods. So.. I want to ask you all to help me out here!

First some rules:
Please no IC information on how to reach any of these places. Simply the common name will be enough in most cases, but a slightly more descriptive one might be needed for the obscure locations. Please consider when you post something: could a player use your description to log on and walk straight there? If so, it's too descriptive.

I'll probably PM people for clarification, with the goal of producing both a Teamside list that has good directions, and a player wiki post with vagueness intact.

Definition of a "dungeon": For my purposes, a 'dungeon' needs the following characteristics:
  • It contains at least two areas.
  • It contains hostile spawns.
  • The pathway through it is either a segregated loop, i.e. you enter at x, travel through with no possibility of exit to the general module, and return to x (or very near it) when you are complete.
    Or
  • The pathway is a dead end which must be retraced to exit.

This eliminates many dangerous places, such as Deglos tunnels, or the T'Nanshi wilderness, the Corkscrew, or the T'Nanshi Coast cave, so I know I'm not creating a comprehensive list of everything dangerous in the world, or even all the hostile caves etc. For example, my definition excludes that Troll Hole in the forest. A list of dangerous places isn't really my goal!

So, with that defined, here's what I can think of. Please help me fill in the blanks...

Underdark:
Buried Crypts
Devil's Hole
Guano Cavern
Path to Izymandeus' Lair
Spider Cult Lair
Troglodyte Cavern

I'd also include "Verloghokbol Sewers." It has more than one entrance/exit, but I'd still count it as a dungeon - it's like other city sewers or the M'Chek Warrens in that respect.

As for these:
Stone Minos - better known as Minotaur Labyrinth
Paladin Keep thing - better known as Deepstone Citadel

Too many exits, some would be on a differnt server after the split, so does it still work? Good point!

If you are going to count the Abandoned Canopies in Le'Or, there are a couple of crypts just off the Causeway in Deglos. Also should count the Weaver Spider Lair (Lost Ruins or something I think the area is called).

What is the dungeon in Deglos with the shadow dragon?

As an interesting detrailment, I helped Yantri get into the Weaver Lair and he told me the Weaver Mother had an Animal Empathy DC of 109. Anyone manage to tame one yet?

Fire giants and Hell still exist in Deglos Spool.

Is the shadow dragon the cavern of rest? It has been too long since I have been there.

You need to count the Amber Dragons also.

Mikona
Sorvanok lair (is this truly a dungeon?) Yes, or you could just call it the Mikona UD
The Library Basement
I would say the Mikona Iron Mine (yes, there are a couple of extra exits, but you listed the the Westside crypts)

Orcscourge cavenrns in T'nanshi. Has a couple off shoots that certainly qualify and if you don't suck at staying on your feet.. it's a single entrance/exit.

Visi: magebane bat lair (2 areas i think) / Cheese caves

For Mikona:
The new Spider area with the broken transition
Somewhere, down there, the Jacks Lair and Brewery

For Visimontium
The Magebane Bat Caves are not the same as the Cheese Cave, they are in two totally different areas.
I also wouldn't consider the Geritri Caverns and Forest a dungeon. If the demons were still there then yes, otherwise those are more like the tunnels of Deglos, dangerous, but not a dungeon.
Under the Lake was built to be considered a dungeon in the count.
The Hydra Snake Caves (Endless hours of fun, that one.)

I've got a neat idea about how to make the list useful without giving away too much fun. When I'm all done it should really be wikified.
