Setting hostile when the PC name is unknown

PostAuthor: pp » Mon Feb 04, 2008 6:55 am

Recently at Elf Gate, I wanted to set hostile to a "creature" that was actually a PC's familiar, but at the time I had no obvious way of figuring out whose it was. The situation was resolved without violence, but in general how should I act in situations like this?

Send a Tell to the familiar... it'll end up going to the player. Ask them OOCly who it is. Hostile is OOC, so it shouldn't be an issue. However, if you subsequently spin around and attack the owner of the familiar / companion, you'll get a patented "Don't Megatame, Bonehead" message from the Team along with possible attached VJ.

Success will be lovely, but you will have to go out and get it! Failure will invite itself in.
