Thanks for the rave, Kat! We've been hard at work on Avlis' first newsletter, which should be emailed to forum registrants tomorrow. Everyone contributed a lot of great content to the first edition, but unfortunately, it turned out to be TOO MUCH! (Who knew Gmail clipped emails at the 100 kilobyte mark? NOT US!!! Live, learn. *sigh*) So, after having made the painful decision to cut some content, including an events calendar, a rumors section, and a player-contributed article (which was particularly hard to part with), we'll be sending out the slimmer (nay, svelte!) newsletter with the hope that it inspires a few of our older *ahem* lapsed players to check out Avlis once again. And to welcome back this hoarde of ex-players *crossed fingers*, we're holding a REUNION WEEKEND in one week (3/12-3/13). An RSVP thread for that event will be open tomorrow. Hope to see everyone there!

Agreed, I got the newsletter (4 times so many logins so little time ) it looks terrific.

The Avlissian was sent to all users that have a Forum account with the setting to allow Administrators to email you information. Here is how to change that for future mailings:

Make sure you are logged into the forum, click on "User Control Panel" link in the upper left, then go to the "Board Preferences" tab. Find the option called "Administrators can e-mail me information". Set that to Yes. Then click Submit at the bottom.

Yep, we were mailing in segments over the course of the day. We grouped the email addresses by last forum login date, reasoning that the old ones were more likely to "bounce" (marketer-speak for an undeliverable address). So if you received one later in the day, it was probably for an account that hasn't been used in a while, like an alt. The idea was that at least the good addresses would be delivered earlier in the day, before anything bad happened.

And something bad happened.

Later in the day, the bounce rate got so high (35%+) that MailChimp revoked our sending privileges! So... no more sending through MailChimp until they review the account of those awful spammers from The Avlissian.

But never fear! We, the fly-by-night publishers of the newsletter, will find a way to send again! If our begging and pleading of MailChimp account reviewers goes unacknowledged, we'll take our party to Benchmark Email. On the good side, we now know which email addresses are valid and likely to be opened, and which are crap. So the mail list has been purged of all its awful alt-ness.

On the bright side of the mail chimp problems is that we're getting great response from the Avlissian and player reunion, but also we still have more bullets to fire as far as distribution.

Might even not be a bad idea to send it out in smaller batches if we start getting too many returning players for the team to handle.

Also I noted there were a few new players in Le or yesterday so I think we're beginning to recruit new blood as well.
