Signature Help?!?!

Can someone please help me? I am trying to find a template or dimensions and format to build a cool signature and avatar? Does anyone know standard Dimensions and format?

Avatar dimension is 80x80 and no larger than 8 kb. Signatures are based on "Don't make it so large it annoys people".
