Okay.. I had to purge the computer from spyware and stuff, so i deleted everything.
Today i thought I'd reinstall NWN. It works okay... but everytime i press Play on the Neverwinter Nights Launcher, this.. error.. window pops up.
(i couldn't find a page to put the printscreen on.. sorry)

And it says:

Access violation at address 0044CC6 in module 'nwn.exe'. Read of adress 72656461.

(the numbers changes randomly)

It's the same thing when i press the Update button, and it can't update normally. Had to download the 1.67 and then use the reset download to get tov 1.66.

Does anyone know what this is??
Maby it's nothing... but i really REALLY want everything to work, now that i have spent days and days to get rid of all the spyware and trojans and what nots.

Well by deleting everything did you format? Try a re-install is all I can suggest really.

Define "delete everything".

This means that NWN is trying to access memory that someone else is using. My first guess would be you didn't remove all the spyware. My second would be that your re-install did not go smoothly.

A few suggestions:
1.) Reboot. See if it goes away.
2.) Uninstall and re-install NWN.
3.) Make sure all the old registry key entries from your initial install are gone.

if you "delete everything" do it with an fdisk. Formatting and just deleting files doesn't actaully remove them, and programs can be easily written to survive a format (and even an fdisk, however not large proggies).

Yeah.. I did a format. Sorry... couldn't come up with the english term for that So they entier Hard drive was cleaned... I guess

I have rebooted, uninstalled and reinstalled.
But.. when I installed I was doing some other stuff at the same time. I guess that could be a reason?

Where do I find the registry key entries? (I know.. I suck at this)
Allso the update thing.. it claims that it can't find the update server.

Oh.. one more thing.. how the hell do I clean out all the spyware?! I have tried about 5 anti spyware progs... and now format.

fdisk.

fdisk is a dos command that re-writes the partition table of your drive.

With a format the data remains on the drive but the paths to said data are erased (which is why your files can be recovered if you accidently format your drive). With fdisk everything is gone (if the partition table is re-written it effectively destroys all of the data on the drive).

fdisk is accomplished the same basic way as a format: make boot floppy disk, boot off of it, type "fdisk" and it'll bring up a little menu of things you want to do (delete partition, create partition, etc).

Then you just boot off your OS CD (windows, linux, whatever) and do a fresh install as you would from a format.

You should probably be connecting through a firewall of some sort as vulnerable machines are infected almost immediately, and the first place you should go is to get all necessary updates for your respective OS.

Also, if you use windows make sure to not use Internet Explorer and all of the other usual Windows warnings.

edit: I should also add, as you may, or may not be aware of this: BE CAREFUL OF WHERE YOU ARE BACKING UP YOUR FILES. What I mean is that if you have a drive "C" and drive "D" and they are both separate hard drive discs, but you only have 1 physical HD in your cpu it is b/c you have 1 drive and it is partitioned into 2. When you run fdisk you may very likely erase both partitions. So be aware of that fact.

Okay.. i'm gonna try and explain this as best I can.

The thing i did was this. First.. I have an HP Computer, that has a partition of the hardrive where all the original files are stored. Like Windows.. and all the stuff that's installed when I recived the PC.This partition is suposed to be untouchable.

I just rebooted the computer, entered a speciall "HP menu" at startup. There it swiped the entier hardrive clean.. deleted everything, then used the partition to reinstall Windows and all the necessary stuff. In other words.. it's supposed to be restored to the same state it was in when i bought it.... supposed to be

After that.. i installed Norton Antivirus programs, updated and all. i allso installed Windows Defender, SpyDoctor, Ad-Aware... all updated.

Ah... I cannot speak to that, I've never owned a pre-fabricated cpu.

I'll leave what HP does/did with their setup to someone with experience in the matter.

Try Spybot. Its free and pretty simple to use.
I use both it and Adaware. (not at the same time or they conflict)
