Can someone give me a formula about using Spellcraft to read & use scroll?
And what if I have UMD as well, but my spellcraft is much higher, will Spellcraft automatically be used when determining succes?
Thanks,
Jazz.

I knmow the umd formula is 25 + spelllevel...
I also know that Bards taking spellcaster levels loose the abillety to use UMD on certain scrolls... Come visit me in my shop and wil test it out *grins* Got plenty o scrolls and UMd and a bit o spellcraft...

Spellcraft checks are 20+ scroll lvl. My spellcraft is WAY higher than my UMD and I only make spellcraft checks for non-mage scrolls.

Jazz: Check it

Spellcraft = 20 + Spell level
Which is what I discovered last night, when I failed a spell I wanted to test with a mage character

do you have to make the spellcraft check if you can already cast the spell, or only if you cant (because it is higher level than your abilities)?
example.
joe mage is a level 9 wizzy he has 13 ranks in spellcraft, he has a scroll of improved invisibility (level 4) does he need to make a DC 24 spellcraft check?
joe mage is a level 9 wizzy and has 13 ranks in spellcraft and he has a scroll of shadow shield (level 7) he has to beat a DC 27 to make it successfully cast?
Just my opinion but if you can already cast the spell, I don't think there should be a spellcraft check, because you already know it, it would be like rolling a spellcraft everytime you cast a spell that you memorized.
In the 2nd scenario though, I do think a spellcraft is warranted.
Am I right in this? Or do all castings from scrolls need spellcraft?

I only see the checks when they're druid or cleric only scrolls or higher level.

If you know the spell, then there is no spellcraft check.

I have a mage with a Spellcraft bonus over 30 so by that equation I should be able to cast any scroll. However all but low level (I think probably lvl2 or lower) divine scrolls are highlighted as red and unusable. Is that as it should be? Should arcane casters only be able to read arcane scrolls?

The way the Wikki reads to me, non divine casters need UMD not spellcraft to cast divine scrolls. Similarly with divine casters trying to cast arcane scrolls.
There does seem to be an issue at present with divine casters not being given a UMD check to cast scrolls that are arcane and outside their domain. Despite UMD skill, even mage armour is currently impossible for me to cast for instance.

OK thanks. That seems to clear it up.
