nwconfig and my idiocy (learn from my stupidity)

Well, a few of you know from reading my random discussions and helping me quite alot to choose the right components for my new computer that I indeed do have a nice shiny new computer.

And even fewer folks know that I was still having having the same exact issues with my new video card despite it being a brand new top of the line shiny new G-Force 7800 GTX.

I was having the same problems with studder and massive slowdown whenever there was more than 4 or 5 things on screen.

I was playing and looking at my NWN folder last night, and discovered the problem. I am writing this so that no one else will have to endure my stupidity.

When I installed NWN onto this new computer, and after I upgraded it to 1.66, I decided it would be smarter to simply move a few folders over onto my new computer (such as my Gamespy history folder and my settings folder, alonf with my hak and tlk folders).

The one thing I missed was to REconfig for my new video card. Last night in my nwconfig folder I discovered that the game still thought I was running my old ATI 9700 PoS (that's Piece of Shit for those who may not know). After reconfiging to my new card, all is fixed.

*slaps himself up side the head*

Please, if you reinstall on another machine, make sure to reconfig to THAT machine. dont pull a Defender and drag everything over....*laughs*

That is all..

*goes and hides because of his stupidity*

This post really had me optimistic that I was just stupid. Alas, I "upgraded" my TI4400 to a 6600GT about a month ago and ever since I get artifacts in the character pictures, the hot keys at the bottom of the screen, falling leaves, and water. This occurs at both fast and best graphics settings. I tried nwconfig and the report shows the new video card. I tried scan and used the suggested settings, but the artifacts are still there.

One problem is that I installed a newer version of the nVidia drivers at the same time I installed the video card, so it hard hard to tell which change caused the problem. My guess is the card, since everyone is probably using the new drivers and I have heard no outcry. If anyone has any ideas, I would be grateful to give them a try before downgrading my video card in order to solve the problem.

I use a geforce 6600GT too...I used to have problems, thought maybe it was overheating, you may want to check that out. Something may be wrong with the heat sync? Another fan would be the best solution..I used a table fan on mine and it helped, and now it doesnt mess up at all. *shrugs* confusing things...

 I've actually done that before. Re-installed windows and everything twice and still didnt figure out the problem. Was fixed as soon as I deleated the NWN folder and reinstalled everything.

Thanks for the info. IF this happens to me again I'll know where to do or atleast where to look for the information if I forget.
