Problem getting NWN working on my laptop

I am going on vacation and want to be able to play on Avlis during that time, so I am trying to get my laptop loaded with NWN. I got NWN and the 2 expansions loaded, and then updated to version 1.66. Everything looked fine at this point. I kicked off NWN, hit "Play" in the first menu, and "Multiplayer" in the second. That's when things went bad.

I had a pop-up window stating that there was a program the firewall detected was trying to access the internet (NWN). Then the laptop re-booted. Now, when I bring up NWN, the menu comes up without any words on the select buttons. Since I know where "Play" is, I hit that to see the next menu, and that menu is also displayed without words. I tried various menus, and none of them displayed any words.

This is on an e-machine purchased at Best Buy last year, running Windows XP as the operating system, and MaCaffe Anti-virus software. I have not yet installed the HAKs, etc., needed for Avlis, but I don't think their absence should cause this, should it?

Has anyone else seen something like this, or have any suggestions on how to proceed debugging this?

Check your firewall settings and make certain NWN has been allowed as an application. The text missing from your buttons, etc. could likely be your firewall's attempt to shut the program down if it is able to detect scripts.
