The little woman and I just started up (Kheldar Hammerfall & Goldie Locksvery respectively). I play on the Mac and she plays on the PC. We have a camcast cable modem and a netgear router linking us to the modem.

At this time, only one of us can be online doing NWn via gamespy at a time due to the second player getting a CD Key in use error.

Neither of us are computer savvy and would like to play together. Friend alo on/in Avlis have a nearly identical set up (2 PCs though) and can play together.

WTF??Whoops....Advise for mosre experienced folks?

You need to buy a second copy of the game and use that key for your second computer.

There are other alternatives, but they are all illegal, so I don't suggest them.

To clarify...

I'm on a Mac, Wife is on a PC. Two different platforms and copies purchased 6+ months apart...

Your CD Key is stored in NeverwinterNights\NWN\nwncdkey.ini. Open them both up and make sure the keys in the files are different. You can open the files in any text editor.

If the keys in the two files don't match, that's a very odd problem. I'm going to move this thread to NWN General Discussion so players can help.

Let me know after you've checked the keys (there should be three of them by the way.)

P.S. Whatever you do - don't post your CD keys here.

One one of the machines, edit the nwnplayer.ini in the NWN directory. Change the line that says "Client Port=5120" to "Client Port=5121". Basically you want both machines using different ports, otherwise things get very confused.

Key 1: No match.
Key 2: No match
Key 3: Match...crap...

Now what?

This may seems petty...but the wife is getting more xp than me!! :D

My boyfriend and I share a router and we have no issue but we were sure we had our keys in right and the ports changed.

Silly question, but do you both have unique game spy names and emails?

No gurantees... but try this:
Dig up the original keys from both copies. Find the third key that doesn't match the one in the INI file. Edit one of the INI files with the new third
key.

CD-keys are unique for each copy of the game. If CDkey number 3 is the same on both installations, then you must have installed it from the same copy of HotU. If you have bought two copies of HotU (or platinum edition, which will amount to the same thing) then you should have two different HotU CD-keys lying around somewhere.

You'll have to find the one that's not equal to the one in your nwncdkey.ini file, and use it to replace one of the duplicates with. CD-keys are usually printed on the manual or on a sticker or other seperate leaflet that came inside the CD box. You do not have to reinstall NWN to use another CD-key, just change the entry in the nwncdkey.ini

If you can't find the second HotU CD-key, then you'll have to buy a new copy of HotU to get a new one. If both HotU CD-keys on both copies of your game are indeed the same, then you've been robbed. This can never happen if you buy original game disks, from a legit dealer, in the original packaging, but there's a lot of frauds out there.

Good luck.
