PGing & no RP

Ok, I jumped on a non PW world the other day with a lvl 40 uber built character with everything anyone could almost posibly want.. sneak attack.. SD lvls, Mage 21+ lvls.. and I realized something.. It's no fun.. Even having your character run around naked he/she's still too powerful to have any sort of enjoyment.. There just isnt any challenge.. So..
I figured out a solution.. Make your character purposly have an XP penalty.. A few others mentioned this to me before about how they where wanting to level alot slower.. well.. they're right.. It's better that was because you can enjoy yourself.. say screw XP and plain have fun. Not to mention your character would have a longer life span. So.. I'm taking this into consideration and there is only one thing to do.. go from a lvl 4/ lvl 5 char to a lvl 9 / lvl 5 char.. thus giving me a nice penalty. Damn, I gotta give it to you old timers.. you're pretty smart.. I used to play PnP quite a bit when I was younger and Leveling was the last thing that was on anyones mind. Sure.. Everyone wanted a stronger character but when it came down to it and the way some of my friends DMed it was all plan and simply about fun. To be honest I wish I never played or even hurd of Diablo & Diablo2 because it really screwed me over with the true RPG world.
I do like killing stuff & exploring.. so I really am going to enjoy the XP penalty teehee

An interesting post. I suggest that should any DMs see you on-line in the future, they start giving you negative xp cookies for good RP. Say something funny? You just lost 30xp. Say something very IC AND useful to the current plot development, lose 50xp. Help save the city from an attacking of exploding chickens, lose 150xp.

If by some ungodly miracle I began deriving happiness from coercing net-folk into editing their forum posts, well, I suppose I could put this bottle of whisky away for good.
Ah, if only life could be so grand.
On the real though, I'd like to see a more formulated paragraph structure, and stop taking grammar lessons from Xeo. Have your final draft on my desk by next Tuesday.

I love Xeo just as much as... well, no.. probably more than the next guy... but he types like a epileptic jackrabbit with the hiccups, and he knows it!
It's part of his charm.
Oh, and I third for a move.

well he can't really help it eh? But yes, it is a part of Xeo's unique aura

just so cute...
reminds me when someone cursed the god of typo's, I told him Id pass it on to Xeo
((is this turning into the topic about xeo's typing skills?))
((just to prevent that, Ill post a pony now....
))
back on topic; I dont think you really need an xp penalty. Sure, makes you go slower, but, you can also whack less creatures. XP penalty just hurts in the later levels. Of course, it's not all about gear and levels, but I do like my levels nonetheless *hugs her newly obtained epicness*

Use paragraphs dude. Reading those long stretches using ... every 10 words aren't making the reading easier.

I find it hard enough to level on Avlis as it is...
Though of course the people who are saying it's too easy are probably powergamers.

What I find distracting is when someone keeps sending me tells informing me how much closer they are to lvling. "410 till lvl... 325 till lvl.. and so on.
I know some are excited about lvling but come one now, it breaks the rp most of the time and not only distracts but annoys.
If you're worried about your char lvling too fast, make multiple ones and take turns playing them. I find myself lvling alot slower when I do this and it's great.
*points to her signature* I enjoy playing each one and I know my main would be lvl 30 or something by now if I played only her.

Where I played before Avlis that got spammed a lot in party chat.

I mean, letting others know you're close, no biggie, but the 'countdown' was.. well, pretty much as Leprechaun's described it. Oh and saying "DING!" got old after about a year of playing, but that's just me. (I don't care if other people do that though.)
Thankfully I've never yet experienced the 'level countdown' on Avlis.

Warning performing such actions, requires the Use of the Nighthawk Francise Agreement.
Failure to get such francise can result in even more ridicule from the "Soloist" players.
And yes if I have only played Bregg all this time she would in her 30's as a barbarian.

I'm fairly loyal to one character. I wont make another one until I'm done with this one.
And as far as someones Powergamming statement.. That is BS.. If going around with groups of other players being IC all the time and getting lots of DM love is powergamming well.. then so be it.. Dont be jelious

Unless you're powerlevelling, XP varies. There was a week where I earned about 500xp a day — that was nuts. On the other hand, I've resumed my regular playing habits and earned 500xp in the last *week.* It's just how it goes.
If someone powerlevels, too bad for them. They're missing out on what makes Avlis different from NWN. If someone intentionally gives their self an XP penalty, hopefully it's for IC reasons rather than OOC, as advancement *is* part of the game, and a fun part. Characters have humble beginnings, and part of the fun is seeing them ascend the social and power ladders.

ICly my character should be around LVL 18 because of his background history, the type of role I have chosen for him and a few other, also, minor reasons. From a Player to character aspect (not character to character) as nice as it would be you can't just think IC all the time. All the things that are part of the game mechanics that help define your character is just as important as the RP you put forth for him/her. Question: Now, if I didn't put up this post to begin with and you knew my character or just happend to see me as some random character would you have ever posted what you did to begin with or question my IC & OOC reasons as to why I lvled my character a certain way?
EDIT: In short - You have to OOCly think about what you're ICly going to do with your character and how your OOC desision is going to effect your character ICly

That last sentence was a bit confusing, and I'm not certain I understand what the question is. I think you're asking "would we have replied if you hadn't put up the question?" The answer is very straightforward: no, there would be nothing to reply to. Regardless.
I've heard it said very often around here that your character is what your character sheet says. Background be damned, if it said you single-handedly smote ten dragons with your bear hands walking up hill in the snow both ways, you'd better be able to do it!

If you did that in 10 minutes, it would be nuts indeed.
If you did that in say a 3 hour playing run on an evening, it would be "normal".
If you did that in a full 12 hour day of playing, it would be "slow".
Around 200 xp per playing hour is mentioned by the Team as "normal". Take that in context of course, as "normal" depends for each on their playing style, but it was based on the lvl20-in-a-year-with-3-hours-per-day-playing-calculation.

Not exactly sure what you mean by that. If you mean my character sheet and background story matches then yes that is true. but noone except the Amakiir family, TrippleAught, and Snow has ever seen it.
If you're refering to what I posted when I first made my character. That would be because I created my character before I thought up a background for him. It was much easier for me to create a background based on something and fit him into the game rather than create a background and then try to fit his chracter sheet into the game. Just because I made my character in a unconventional way doesn't mean it was wrong. He still fits in nicely to Avlis. He has a strong background story and he is fun to play. So, if you want to criticise go ahead but you're waisting your energy.
