Changing the Music

Before I go and ruin my NWN by trying, let me ask here, does anybody know if its possible to replace the game music with different songs? I realize I can't make the area call a different song, but say I'm gettin' tired of the same old music and want to replace it with Record of the Lodoss War music, for example, can I overwrite the song file that the area calls with a song I'd rather hear?

What I've done in the past is turn the music off in the options menu of NWN, and then run a CD player or mp3s in the background.

Yeah, I've done that as well, but I love to fit the music to the situation. Battle music when you're fightin, night music at night, city music in the city, creepy music in a dungeon, etc.

You could, you know, test it. ;)

Make a copy of the files you'll be replacing and keep them somewhere safe on your PC, then take the tracks you want to be played instead, rename them and put them in the folder, if it doesn't work, well, it doesn't work. If it does, sweet. I don't know if this would mess up anything, but I doubt it, since you could just reinsert the proper files if it doesn't work..

The music files, are these renamed mp3-files, or something else?

NWN's music files are .bmu's.

Edit: There's a thread about it here.

Edit 2: I'm not sure on this one, but since Avlis already used hakpaks to add custom music, you really shouldn't need more than to just convert the files to .bmu's and then renaming them appropriately for when you want them played.
