what's the difference? I thought they were the same, but it appears that spells that are 1 turn/level llast longer then spells of 1 round/level. I know what a round is, I've played enough pnp for that, but turns?
Thanks in advance!

if i recall...
ten rounds= 1 turn
a round= 6 seconds or something
so 1 turn= 1 min

but there are other spells with a duration of 1 minute/level or I may be thinking of pnp there

It's Biowares way of messing with you, 1 turn and 1 minute are the same thing

Actually, I think it is:
1 round = 1 minute
1 turn = 10 rounds or 10 minutes...
Anyone got a PHB?

In NWN
A round is six seconds
A turn is 10 rounds. Which takes one minute.
Spells can also have a duration of 10 minutes/level, which is huge... and easily misread.

A round is 6 seconds, I know that for sure. I was thinking a turn was something like that but not sure.
anyway, thanks for all the responses!

Also, a duration of an hour/level is actually 2 minutes/level ; I think.

an hour in avlis is 4 mins i think...so its 4 mins/level...but i might be wrong

Nah, an hour is 2 minutes., as it's a 12 minute delay between ferrys (6 hours game time).

are you sure?...because my hour per level spells seem to last a lot longer than that...

Hours on avlis are longer than hours on many other servers and offline mods...
Rest periods are every 4 game hours, which is every 16 minutes. That has been true for a ~very~ long time.
You can do some math off of that. *puts on thinking cap*
2 hours = 8 minutes
1 hour = 4 minutes.

Garius is correct, game hours are 4 minutes long in RL.
1 Round = 6 RL seconds
1 Turn = 10 Rounds = 1 RL minute
1 Game Hour = 4 turns = 4 RL minutes
A note on spell durations:
Durations mesaured in rounds/turns are fairly obvious.
Durations measured in minutes are based on RL minutes.
Durations measured in hours is based on game hours.

Then what's up with the ferrys? I know for a fact that the delay between ferrys is not 24 minutes RL.

So yes, a duration of 10 minutes per level is actually longer than a duration of 1 hour per level...2,5 hours per level to be precise...

On the other hand, i know for a fact that the delay is 24 minutes rather than 12.

They delay works out to you never having to wait more than 20 minutes to catch a ferry.
If you arrive at 7:01, 20 RL minutes later is 12:01
7:01 wait 4 minutes 8:01
8:01 wait 4 minutes 9:01
9:01 wait 4 minutes 10:01
10:01 wait 4 minutes 11:01
11:01 wait 4 minutes is 12:01
you now have 4 minutes to catch the boat or you wait another 20 minutes.

I'm not sure I would complain or bring attention to there being no RL delay in the ferries. You really want to stare at a blank screen for 20 minutes because you took the boat? Seems that would suck the fun right out of the game.
THen again Hala has the ships go on a "Flight" to get to where they are going. 5 minutes ( there abouts) of staring at you character on a ship with a few NPC's and nothing to do except maybe go get some RL laundry or dishes done.....yay....Was a nice effect for realism, but was real boring for a game ment for fun.

I'm pretty sure that when I last played PnP D&D (Advanced Dungeons and Dragons as it was then), then a round was 1 minute, a turn 10 minutes and an hour.. well an hour.
It was very irksome to think that those characters that had 1 attack per round, actually only managed to make one attack in a whole 60 seconds! The rationalle given by the D&D people was that you spend a lot of combat actually getting into position, circling the enemy, and waiting for the right opportunity, so the 1 attack per round was 1
good attack per round, rather than just flailing aroud with arms etc. As for spells, well, to be able to cast 1 spell per 6 seconds (as it is now) ... actually seems way to fast too me, especially when you consider components, drawing circles on the ground and doing all the hand guestures, etc. But, heh... its only time at the end of the day.

The trick is to go with a friend. Then the ride isn't long enough

The airships have been updated so it doesnt require those laggy scripts.
It's just "Enter Airship" "Exit Airship" and then you're at your destination

Gairus and Jonezie are both correct. Read what they wrote.
