I've got the Haks and the CEP but NwN won't update to 1.66...anybody know what's the problem?

Thanks in advance...

Are you running with a "no-CD" version of NWN? If not, then the "Update" function from the menu will not work. Change back to the official CD version and try it again. Or use the critical rebuild (which is what I did).

Did you apply a NoCD crack? If so, you must remove that and return to the correct copy of Nwmain.exe before you Update. Hope that helps.

Nope no No-CD crack...everything is all original.

if you are running a firewall have you given nwupdate.exe access to the internet?
what does the dialog window say when you try to update? it should tell you the version that you are running and then start giving you feedback when you click on the update button.

Yes, we need more information.

After you log into your GS account, does it tell you there's a new version available? If so, what happens when you click Yes?

Update window remained blank...but as per longbows directions I found the problem...*mutters something profound about "that damned Norton Internet Security"* Kicked my pc into a reboot and shut the bloody thing down...that did the trick. Thx for the help though :)

*growls* Update succeeded but now NwN is acting like shit...avlis servers are jumping on and off...ping values go to -1...and so on...*kicks pc*
Also when I log into a server I get missing HAK file cep1patch152.hak...and I installed it... :? :(

sounds like you need to check all your hak files again. i would pay attention to the avlis_ext_hakset which seemed to be server orientated.

the cep1.52 should be simple enough. it isn't really an install though. you just need to copy over the haks after downloading and extracting the files.

the link to the cep 1.52 i used is http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Ha ... 63&id=6056
download the rar and then extract. then read the readme.txt [sorry if that seems obvious but you'd be amazed by the number of people that don't bother].

basically when the cep1.52 extracts you should have three folders that contain different versions of the haks. you select the set of haks depending on the setup of nwn that you have. one of the files that you copy is the cep1patch152.hak.

hope this helps.

I had a heap of trouble with that damn cep1patch152.hak file. I needed to copy it from the HotU folder it created under my haks folder into the actual hak folder. It took me a while to figure it out but that was my problem, hope it helps (btw had same problem with Norton too :P).

Okay I did as told...even reinstalled all new haks...no way to test them though since to me all servers are at ping -1 or offline preventing me from logging in. :(

*sighs* Perhaps this is God's Way of Telling me that I should stop playing... :)

also remember that the update will have updated your nwmain.exe which your firewall will treat as a new file altogether so you will have to allow it access to the internet again.

Firewall is off...so that can't be it.

Open the hak folder, then open the HotU folder there as well, will find that file in there if you extracted the CEP to the hak folder. Copy and paste it into the first hak folder, is what worked for me.

Norton Internet Security...though as I said I turned it off in order to update so I don't gather it is the problem.

maybe it's not turned off completely. To be certain, uninstall, wash your hard drive with acid, reinstall Windows and try again. Should work ok.

or ... have a look in Services and actually stop the Norton services, then try again.

Okay out off all servers only Mikona was accessible...same result as always "You need cep1patch152.hak" *growls* I'm gonna uninstall NwN and reinstall everything because I tried both RaR and Zip versions of the new CEP but still nothing. *sighs and runs the uninstall*

maybe wouldn't have been that extreme as to uninstall and reinstall myself but if you've already started....

if you are getting the missing hak message then it really just is a case of checking the neverwinter nights\nwn\hak folder on your pc. if the file that is reported as being missing [cep1patch152.hak] is not listed in the folder then that is the problem.

as stated before when you unzip the cep1.52 rar it places the hak files in folders HotU / Live and SoU. You need to copy the files out of the relevant folder and place them in the hak folder. do not copy the HotU / Live or SoU folders themselves, only the files.

There should be no subfolders in your hak folder, only files.

Checked that...installed those haks about a million times...still get the same damned message..just gonna reinstall in all. And maybe then I'll also find out why the hell I'm seeing all the servers (do know I am mentioning only the avlis servers, other servers look good) either offline or at ping -1...given the odd 1 server that has a useable ping.

Yeeeee-haw!!!

I got in!

Odd thing is that to me all servers are still offline but when I use direct connect I can log in :? :? :?

Now I managed to put my problems since I updated in three things:

1) I can't log into most of the servers because they are (I presume since there is point 2) at ping -1
2) If I can log in there is no way of telling since all servers show up as offline to my client...most of the time.
3)Monster Lag :?

If you have Norton AV 2005, you need to turn off the "Internet Worm Protection" to get the update to d/l and run.
I have had lots of problems with this same part of the program and multiplayer NWN. I have added every single executable in the NWN dir to the allowed list and I still sometimes get probs as it loads the Multiplayer. I also have probs with mIRC and WS-FTP and this "Worm protection". I usually end up just disabling it for the duration of my use of the mentioned programs.
